A ship from the port of Waterdeep arrives early in the morning, as the ship unloads it's wares a messenger leaves the docks in search of Istari Tower. Clutched firmly in his hand is a letter that he is to deliver to Elias Goodmane of the Weavemasters. Upon finding the tower the messenger waits to hand the letter to him personally...

The scholar hands the messenger inside Istari Tower lobby a couple of gold coins for having the patience to await his return. As he opens the scroll a wave of emotion rolls over him. His brow is furrowed with deep thought upon reading it's contents. "Long has it been since the death of my friend, how is it now that I must impart the news to his children?"
"Please good messenger, just a moment more of your time for me to pen a reply to those that have sent you."
Dear Windsoul Brothers,
I must first tell you that it is an honor to be considered as much a friend to such an honored man as your father. His courage and service to this land is unmatched.
Please forgive our delay in sending word, as our Exarch is ever busy tending to the safety of those here in Baldur's Gate. Waste no more coin in delaying your arrival here, as you will be welcomed with open arms here at Istari Tower. Upon your arrival do not be swayed by those that would divert your course from Istari. Please seek me out first and foremost, as there is much that I would wish to discuss with you.
Your friend, Elite Magus Elias Goodmane
Elias hands the scroll to the messenger sealed with the symbol of the Weavemasters, and wrapped in a blue and white ribbon. "Make haste with this response my friend." He hands the messenger a few more coins, and with a departing nod the messenger leaves to find the brothers Windsoul.

Left for Elias, William & Nahum:
I travelled with a large group this afternoon, all whom would like to be Weave Masters. Among them was our new Weave Adept Samah Sinistrad, and Weave Journeyman Foggy McGee. Hendal proved himself worthy of being a Weave Scout. However there were others that would like to meet with you to undergo their own training: Korr Rokranon would like to become a guardian, as would another dwarf named S'ment. Boddynock would also like to become a weave master. If you see them, please do not hesitate to speak with them.
Also I have seen two more red wizards in the area, or what looks to be. One of them smelled strongly of undeath. We need to do more investigation on what is bringing all of them to this area at this time.

On the wall inside locked doors at Istari Tower hangs a notice.
[glow=blue,2,300]To all Weavemasters,
Be wary as you walk the streets of Baldur's Gate, as there have been many attacks inside the walls of the city. The Flaming Fist know of this threat, and have described one of the attackers as a red robed spell caster who summons the undead. I do not need to tell you all of the implications of the red robe. Be suspicious of any that you sense is gifted with the Art and wear this color. If you have no taste for battle then avoid this one at all costs, or watch from the shadows their actions. If you have the power to detain the one in question then do not hesitate to do so, as the Fist will be most welcome of any help they can get in this matter. Please be on your guard no matter the case, I'm afraid the ones who threaten our city grow bolder by the day.

A letter is found in Lyra's room, it appears to have been there for several days.
Nahum, Elias, William... I have left for the north, I need to rest and visit my family. The road is full of masked men, assassins, red wizards, madmen and idiots. Its too much. I cant keep track of it all. Without word from other scouts I am blind. The masked men, the necromancers, the assassins, the warlocks... they are all I see on the road. The road is full of them, and there are no others. I need a break. Some time away from the crazies and the darkness.
Leave a message at my aunt Sarah's in Neverwinter if you need to get in contact with me.

The following is a letter written by Jonas Rokranon to his friend Elias Goodmane.
Elias,
I suppose I should say Exarch Elias, as I have just heard the news. Congratulations! I never met Nahum myself, but my brother Korr spoke very highly of him.
I wish I had good news to tell you, but alas I bring ill tidings and a request for aid. I am certain you remember that fateful day outside of Beregost when there was another outbreak of the Ramset plague, and the solar Cyrus saved us all. He spoke of the plague being controlled now by someone even more powerful and fearsome than the Ramsets every were.
I believe that the drow shade, Onyxium, is now in control of it. A few nights ago at the campfire, a woman grew quite ill and a portal of darkness erupted from her chest much like we have seen before. But this disturbance was the largest I have seen yet. Everything from zombies to vampires, liches to banshees, and even a dracolich poured out of the darkness and attacked our amassed forces. A man by the name of Esteban concluded that light spells would close the rift of darkness, so several of us cast light on ourselves and approached it. The gambit worked, and the amassed group broke up and went their separate ways.
Some of us stayed at the fire, and not an hour later the drow shade Onyxium appeared, to taunt us as usual. It claims it merely wants friendly conversation, but who can trust such a creature? It certainly had a lot to say about the late Keagan Wyndsoul, but I am proud of the young Wyndsoul brothers for not taking the bait, as they were there too. Alistaria deduced that Onyxium had infected the woman I mentioned earlier, and he actually seemed delighted that someone had figured it out. Despite his ways, I believe him on this.
Onyxium is a foe well beyond my means to destroy. The darkness that radiates around him heals all of his wounds in short order. Even very large groups have failed to end him, at least twice. Therefore, I request of your group of scholars to look into ways to kill the shade. I am sending a similar letter to Valerius of Candlekeep so that they might pool their resources as well. If this Onyxium truly controls the Ramset plague...well I do not need to tell you how dire the situation could be.
There is another matter I am somewhat hesitant to bring up. After one of Onyxium's attacks, a spectral child appeared to a large group of us, talking about the encounter in chess terms. The white pieces being our defensive force led by me, the black pieces being Onyxium and his summons. The spectral child said that the board had been reset, and that the black pieces were now being controlled by the creators of Sava. Valerius informs me that this is the drow. Therefore, there may be a possible drow invasion on the horizon. I will notify the Dukes, but I wanted to ask you personally for aid, if you can spare anyone. If not, well I understand. I know you keep very busy.
Think on what I have said my friend, and let me know. Alistaria and I will be hammering out the wedding details soon, so I hope to have more to tell you on that front. Some happy news, for a change.
Stay safe, and Ilmater's blessings upon you my friend.
Sincerely,
Jonas Rokranon

In response to Jonas's letter Elias immediately pens a response and sends a messenger to Jonas.
Jonas,
Firstly I must tell you that I am glad to know that you are still safe. News reaches my ears daily of those that would wish to harm people who work good in this region, and I value highly the lives of my friends.
I must tell you as well that the news of Onyxium's vengance comes as no surprise to our order. Long have we been warned that he holds great power, and would seek to use it against all who walk the land. This threat must be stopped at all costs, before there are no lives left to protect. I fear that ending the reign of this fiend will be a task of great magnitude, requiring a massive amount of support from many sources. If the denizens of the underdark wield control over such a powerful being as Onyxium, they must do so with some object of great power, as I cannot see a creature of such strength bending to the will of any without being bound to do so.
Know my friend that you will have the full support of the Weave Masters in this. We will pool our knowledge with all who seek it in the matter of bringing an end to this reign of terror. We will find the answer to his defeat if given enough time, as all available scholars will be set to this task. Our scouts will be set to the task as well of keeping watch for signs of surface drow or the shade's minions. Until we find a solution to this matter do keep yourself safe. We cannot afford the loss of another stalwart defender of the people such as yourself.
Keep your hopes high and your thoughts toward the future of our fair land. We will see a time for celebration once again my friend.
Sincerely, Exarch Elias Goodmane

The following letter is left in the tower for the Weave Masters to see:
I think you might be interested in the following. A drow raiding party crept out of their caves in search of a certain tome of said powerful magic, carried by a caravan headed to Beregost. I know very little about the situation, but myself and Seadin were both there when it happened. At least, we arrived to see the drow preparing to leave.
The battle that followed is all a blur in my head. They spotted us probably before we did, and Tymora must've had mercy on us as the drow left me for dead, and Seadin escaped. But what I remember is that we were outnumbered at least three to one, and they had a considerable amount of spellcasters. In short, we didn't stand a chance.
After I woke up and Seadin gathered a group from Candlekeep, we went back to the caravan. Or what remained of it. The dark elves burned everything, they even killed the horses. It seems they also used a portal to reach the surface. Whatever that book was, it must've been important to them - and as far as I know, they have it.

Upon finding and reading the letter left by Anderick, the Exarch decides not to correspond, but to talk to the guardian personally about the matter.
