Its not that I mind so much that I was caught napping and lost a bow(that was latter returned) But some of the pocketpicking is just unbelieveable...I mean if you steal my freakin tower shield I think I'm going to know...and if that's not enough I was in a big ol' lagg right at the time! I got my shield back from the culprit after placing a hold person spell on him...and threatening more severe action in the future, you cannot keep picking on the same couple people cause we are half-way having fun with it...it gets old. I don't want to have to hunt a thief down and be chasing someone constantly cause it takes any RP aspect out of the picture for me....even though the PC in question is RP-ed well and funny...I think some small type rule should apply....its a world of fantasy but my PC could kill yours in that world and would that then be grieffing??? I don't want to be the one to decide...

If thief steals from ten citizens and they have got proof (screenshots that they spotted him/her) and they want that thief to be hanged on market square - we (Flaming Fists) will hang him. If one from that citizens dont agree with hanging - hanging is canceled and thief will be given a chance to return all stolen goods ad pay those citizens for their troubles. 500 coins for every case. If they agreed not to hang him, but thief doesn't have money - he will have to hunt wolfs under our guarding. If thief escapes - next time when we catch him - he will be hanged immediately. What does it mean for player to be hanged - he has got a rebuild with loosing half of his levels. What is good - Thief Guild will try to pay money to citizens for not hanging its unit. Or can threat citizens not to agree to hang thief. Anyway - gold and items are rare things on server, and thief can become extremely rich just in one day by pickpocketing and robbing citizens. Why so tough - Thieves will level up and steal mostly from low levels. That is always that way and a lot of newbies will lost their last twenty coins. If those newbie will know that for last 20 coins they can get 500 - they will be glad to be robbed and spot thief. The level loss and rebuild are a definate no, i wont and I'm sure the others will never force a player to rebuild or loose levels for quality RP. I just want the thieves to know that after a while my (pretty powerful warrior) will become aggravated enough to seek retribution and being that my PC is member of Fist the jailing penalty should be at the very least a small obstacle in their way... I don't personally want to lose levels myself...but if I started robbing people blind I would watch my back and not cry(and no one did) if I get what karma brings to my table...not a threat, I love some of the antics but trying to keep my belief suspended at same time folks!!!

Well - hanging with delevel is a threat to idiotic robbery and pickpocketing non stop - if someone will really piss off other players. I am trying to avoid permadeath or ban. One inprisoned illitid, okey not mind flayer, witch, don't know, mage with mind reading abilities, it doesn't change the point. The easiest way is to include a script that goes on the Module onAcquire event that will flag items as non-pick pocketable if their weight is greater than X amount.
Reason being it is unrealistic that a thief lifted a complete set of Plate Armor or a massive Two-Handed Sword, but a Ring of Protection +2, an Amulet of Health or a Wand of Magic Missiles is very possible.
At most thieves can get is small baubles or gold. Things like rings, necklaces, gems, daggers, slings, sling bullets, scrolls, wands, poitions and of course gold coins.
There are a few scripts on the nwvault that can accomplish this.

I agree that should exist some form of punishment for thieves and murderers. Makes more dangerous and real for those who wish to be evil, and also makes them form some sort of guild or group, to feel More safe. But permadeath and/or deleveling should not be considered unless in extreme cases. Perhaps imprisonment and trial, like we had with Lucian Huss. That was very good for RP, and allows the thief/murderer to try and buy his way out, with the help of some group or guild, corrupting some authorities. Use some for of payment to get out of prison is also a good idea, and the ex-prisoner could be on parole or something like that. But definitely should be some sort of punishment, or else there will be no reason for not being a thief, if nothing can happen to you. Anyway, thats just my opinion.

I know I started checking my inventory more frequently after the rash of thefts of bows, etc. ;D NWN and NWN2 game engine randomly picks a item from a players equipment and gives it to the rogue character on pick pocket but does not do so in a realistic fashion. It does not "look" at the item in question it simply transfers owner ship to the rogue. There have been rogue character's on other servers going all the way back to the first PvP NWN server who did steal magical sets of plate armor and two-handed swords, etc. Here is a anti-pick pocket script based on weight. Im not scripting expert but if i read that one correct, anything greater then 25lbs wouldnt be lifted.
Most weapons weigh much less then that...actually quite a few things do.

Also, a pickpocket's best place would be in the crowded city. I don't think there would be too many who would walk up to a lone person in the wilderness and reach into his pockets. So, I don't think we should have to worry about losing our possessions to petty thieves while out in the cloakwood or some other such place.

What about pickpocketing corpses? There must be a script which allows to take from corpse everything - and full plate and great sword. That will be the only way for thieves to become rich in seconds. I hope there will be a script that you appear in fuge naked and all your goods are left on your corpse. And i am sure - after you will not find your goods couple of times - you will really want to hang thief - which means delevel him, which means for rogue loosing a lot of his abilities at once. It will be a payment for ability to become rich in seconds and level up with the help of expensive scrolls, which are bought on stolen gold.
I really wanna try to play rogue lady, just to enlarge my RP skill. I tried one - it is awfully hard to level up on her own and there is no use at all from rogue in a party - no dungeons with traps, no chest with treasures with high lock pick. Please - don't hurry with Beta 6 as the last one Beta. I think there must be Beta 7 - where all classes can have benefits from their profession in party adventure. And a best place for pickpocket is everywhere, where you don't see rogue. Rogue can clean your pockets while you fighting monster. You will never see it if rogue is professional.
