Yes, rewarding pure class' trough special items is a very good idea, since there are so many temptive rewards from multiclassing.
Also, there could be items only useable to maxed prestige class only like usuable only for Weapon Master min. lv 10
But there also lacks different versions of normal items to +2, like the whip....as far as i can recall tehre are no medium shields +2 either. IMO every possible item should be available through normal to +2.

Everful quivers of normal arrows would be very welcome without unbalancing anything too much.

All the ideas thus far sound awesome.
Might I suggest torches and lanterns for characters without reusable light spells? I haven't been able to find any and I could really use a torch so I don't have to jack up my gamma setting for my human warlock.

Any thought on either a merchant selling poisons or atleast having poison gland drops that the alchemy skill could be used on to get poison vials. The wyverns in particular should be dropping poison glands.

Would be at some hidden shop or perhaps in thieves guild hq.. or what have you.

Right, that is what I had in mind for poisons.. either a merchant in the thieves guild, or perhaps Candlekeep or somewhere a bit beyond the 'beginner' areas. Sleep poisons, stun poisons, damage poisons.. there are all types we could have available.
Between poisons and higher level traps I think we could open up a lot for some different character types.

Short Bows! Magical Shortbows!
We have a +2 Composite Longbow, but not a +2 Composite Shortbow. I'd like a few specialty bows based on shortbow the way we have a few Longbow variants as well.
Please!
Did I come up with enough ideas yet?

I put an earlier post a recommendation for pure classes to be able to use special items. If it's still possible that would be great. Here's an alternate/additional recommendation: How about items specifically for non-casters (I.e. rogues and fighter-types)? In a low-magic world, they truly are at a disadvantage. How about up to +5 weapons and/or armor (or equal power) that cause a 75% spell failure (even for clerics)? Not sure how easy that is to script but it basically means that only non-casters can use it. It may help with balance?

The items for non-casters would be great considering that most casters can enchant their weapons at will to have high bonuses and elemental damage. On the other hand, melee characters can have the benefit of such if they party with casters.
I don't think the pure classes actually need a lot more incentive as there are already some good ones built into the game itself. Those who have not yet done so should take a look in the MotB manual. Epic level characters get bonus feats and special abilities if they have at least 21 levels in a single class.
I know that I would like to see a scythe with some kind of bonus in addition to the standard +2 enchantment. There used to be one but it was removed by the time I got around to getting Kerto a new weapon.

That's why the Weave Guardians are such a force to be reckoned. They get the best of both worlds

I've always wanted to see the Crom Faeyr make a comeback.
Original stats: 5-8 dmg, speed 1, weight 4, +5 THACO, sets strength to 25, kills Stone Golems, Clay Golems, Ettins, and Trolls
Suggested stats: 2d4 dmg, weight 10, enhancement bonus of +3, +6 str, chance to slay constructs and trolls with a DC of 20.
Obviously, it would not be available by any other means than a reward for some monumental task, that only high level characters could accomplish, and only as part of a team. Also, if it could be restricted to melee characters and not affected by UMD it would bring melee characters closer to being balanced with spellcasters, and give them more of an incentive to play such a class.

If it's thaco was +5 then why wouldnt the enhancement bonus translated be +5? Why the aversion to fighter types gaining good equipment? By level 20 a caster can enhance his weapon to +5 or a Stormlord to +8, not to mention the numerous elemental damage bonuses and +5 ac bonuses, damage reduction and concealment. If anything a fighter type should get better equipment than a caster or what he can emulate with spells because damage and tanking is all he has or rather what his role is supposed to be. Not to mention these caster buffs last in game minutes and hours so it's not like they are super buffed for 30 seconds then go back to the back of the party.
Those stats sound like a level 16-18 weapon at best and Crom Faeyr was like the second most powerful weapon in Baldur's Gate 2 prior to Throne Of Bhaal. I think it would deserve better stats than that.
