Ok I've seen this brought up many times before is the challenge rating problem when it comes to RP. I'm guilty of it myself and I'm sure many others are as well but the first thing I do when I see another avatar is I immediatly inspect said avatar and then base my reaction on what color I see. I'd love to see the Challenge rating dissapear for good. That way people will have more conversations and possibly dice rolls to determine their friend or foe's strengths and weaknesses rather than a meta gaming right click. One of the reasons none of my characters have anything in their bio pages is that I've never been able to look at somebody IRL and suddenly know a small portion of their life story...even though that'd be neat..

It's one of those situations where level does matter. In terms of bluff, spot, intimidate, lore etc. But I do think if it were removed you'd see less bullying through skill checks. :/

I know the level matters but it will make for more interesting conversation not immediately knowing if the person your talking to can kill you right off or not.
It will also make Racial and Faction PVP more interesting.
In all people will have to rely more on RP before they jump into combat or bad mouthing/threatening ect.

Meh, its not like it would matter much, because those ratings are for a lot of times very wrong. For instance minotaurs are labeled easy to a character of mine, while they certainly harder than that.

I don't really mind them on NPCs since as deserk says they aren't necessarily close to the truth, but if I had one wish and one wish only for the server, it would to remove the challenge rating on PCs. It does a RP a world of good, despite how everybody claims it doesn't effect them.
I played on the Forgotten Realms Cormyr PW in NWN1, which is argueably one of the most roleplaying dedicated servers that has ever been, with draconian rules and countermeasures for any sort of non-roleplaying. Even there, even with these paragons of serious online ROLEPLAYING, there was a marked change in the way players interacted with each other after they removed the challenge rating.
I really can't stress it enough, it should go, no doubt about it

I'd vote for removing the challenge ratings entirely. It seems like it'd be simpler to do it that way than to remove it only for PCs and not NPCs.

Well in Real life if you see a guy who stands 6 feet taller than you with an axe the size of your torso and muscles so big they are bending his plate mail armor - you simply would not mess with him.(yes this is an exaggeration) But! If you examined him and knew for a fact he was effortless to you, you'd even be prone to tell him he is an ant and throw rocks at him because he knows you're Impossible to him.

to an extant in fantasy the point of the challenge rating is your perception, some people excude power, you are simply able to tell relative to you how powerful they are. Why for example should Elminster fear a burly 6 foot tall tough guy under any circumstances? Flesh to Stone and now he has a nice burly statue for Shadowdale.

Removal of cr rating on pcs will greatly diminish bullying and pickpocketing by players. A good thing IMHO. I'm all for it.

here, here
I too am for removing the challenge rating.
Most of us have had an experience where we were bullied by someone who felt they were superior because of some colored text beneath the optional player description. Absolutely no need for this in terms of RP. If you think you are a bully... then be consistent!

Well, Elminster knows he shouldn't be afraid of the big burly guy because he knows the extent of his own abilities, not the other guys. The flipside is that why should the burly 6 foot tall tough guy avatar of Tempus be scared of a puny old Shadowdale wizard with a challenge rating of "effortless"?

Yes... I would like to see that as well...
People should learn to trust in their abilities even if they are lvl 1. ;D
This keeps RP much better, and I'm for RP in every way. ^^

I've got a great idea! Why not remove anything that might be misused in the game altogether?! Random dice rolls! Level-ups! Feats! Skill points! Spells! All these things contribute to a terribly abusive and exploitative situation! Why it's gotten so bad that you can't even log in and actually play the game anymore without one of these these interrupting your gaming experience! I think we should create little static alcoves where PC's are stored in stasis, grouped around each other, so they can talk to each other and RP; but are otherwise prevented from actually impacting each other! Oh wait, then someone might start god-narrating and that would be bad. We might as well take away the text box as well! Wheee! Let's all just not bother logging into the PW because the act of logging in m,ight very well be offensive and abusive!
