Partial rest is possible in any area that isn't a "no rest" zone. PC's would gain (1+CON mod) HP per level plus a bonus equal to the survival skill. All PC's would gain a minimum of 1 point per level even with a negative CON modifier. Spells would be gained at a rate of 1 spell level per caster level starting with the lowest spells first. Thus a level 3 wizard could regain 3 first level spells or 1 second level spell and 1 first level spell. How the heck does this make server more difficult? You can just log out and then just log back on to get all your spells back. "Oh dang I crashed.... but hey at least I got all my HPs and spells back..." Someone will always figure out a way to get around roadblocks... Especially in a bug ridden game like this one. If the server devs could go in and fix the game, then maybe we could one day get some balance... Since they can't just enjoy the game!!! This game meant to be enjoyed!! No stress should be involved! I think everyone is just spending way too much time looking at what everyone else is doing. I'm going to build my character the way I want to... I don't care if everyone else is better or not. Sometimes I build really powerful characters... sometimes they are weak. Right now I'm working on a dragon character... Will she be powerful? Most likely. She's a dragon for heaven's sake!! Am I going to make her as powerful as she can be? maybe... To me that isn't that important... While I try to make the server better for others, but my priority, like everyone's else priority should be, is making the game fun for myself! I am not going to count on the devs to make the game fun for me. They shouldn't have to worry about all this balancing crap all the time! Let them worry about creating more content and DM ran quest!

Since balancing has always been an issue, there will always be people who present ideas to fix it. There is nothing wrong with this and if the DEVs choose not to do anything, that's fine, but there's no reason to rake someone over the coals for trying to help. Please, rather than ranting about something, try to present a constructive idea or keep opinions short. We're not trying to start a flame war or anything here.
To add a little to the topic itself...
I very much approve of changing the rest for various reasons, but the server will still be fun for me if changes are not implemented. Please realize people are not suggesting these ideas because they can't have fun if another PC is powerful. Balancing ideas are not just for the melee players' benefit, but also it will really, really help the DMs do events (yes, there would be a good deal less setup time if the DMs could know that they won't need 50 epic level custom creatures).

I didn't mean to rake anyone over the coals... I just don't think the resting system is the problem, especially since you really don't have to rest at all in this game. I think the best method to balance the classes is to look at each class and figure out the strengths and weaknesses of each class. You may have to create a team and have them play each class to lvl 30 to get an good idea of what makes one class good and one class crappy. I don't think there can be a fix all when it comes to balancing classes.

The resting issue IS the issue that allows casters to go balls-to-the-wall with all of their magic at once (or all in buffs) and then as soon as the spells run dry - rest and whammo they are back in the game.
How many of you old schoolers EVER had a DM allow you to do such craziness? You are lucky if you get to rest at all while playing, let alone after every dang fight.
Thats where I see it helping with balance. Sure the sum total of the mages and clerics powers can and should probably outweigh the melee's powers.. but they should have to stretch those out over a period of time far outlasting their spell effects.
Alas, I have repeated myself prob 5 times on the subject.. so I will be quiet now. Lol.
