Lyra looks at the badge again, and back to Nahum, and nods. "It is an honour to wear this.. I will strive to be worthy of it." She stopped to congratulate William, and Lilly, Kayoto, Vindex and Jath. But she wasn't quite sure how to handle all of the congratulations and praise from everyone else. Especially Nahum's words. She was still not used to being the centre of attention... but it was a good feeling to be surrounded by friends, and celebrating with them. After William spoke, she stood slowly, and faced the group. "Thank you for all of your congratulations, and well wishes.. It has been an honour to travel and work with you all." She stopped, hesitating, then simply raised her glass to the group, and sat down blushing lightly.

*Two weeks after the Weave Masters journey to the Underdark…* One of the many scrying orbs in the Istari Tower begins to hum as it suddenly starts to receive a magical calling from the enchanted Weave Captain badge of William Fredrickson. In the orb an approximate location of William can be seen somewhere near the Cloud Peak Mountains, near Nashkel. It can also be seen from the orb that William’s condition is critical and that he is badly wounded… ///Link to William’s story on the Underdark event in the Biography section. theswordcoast.proboards89.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=characterbiography&thread=1371&page=1///If anyone wants to rescue William, feel free to make a IC post about it, or we can do it in game. Otherwise, he'll drag himself back to the Weave Tower ;D

After spending a few days drifting in and out of consciousness, William was found by a rescue party formed by his Weave Guardians under the command of Defender Vindex. With the rough location of their Captain shown by the scrying orb at the Tower, they found William at the base of the Cloud Peak Mountains, trying to crawl northwards. As the Guardians trampled through the undergrowth and entered the clearing he was in, William suddenly looked up, hand on the pommel of his sword. Relief flooded him though, as he saw who it was. "Vindex!?", he rasped out, in a voice that hadn't known water for days. He was in a dreadful state, but alive. His armor was deeply gashed in several places, he was covered in blood, his face was cut up, and an unidentifiable glob of slime coated his arm. Administering healing potions and giving him rudimentary medical aid, they managed to get William back on his feet. Spitting at the bitter taste of the healing potions, William told them a quick version of his escape from the Underdark. "It was bloody awful, Vindex... I can't even begin to name all the things I saw down there..." They gave him water and supported him along for a while, but after an hour William insisted that he would manage to walk by himself. The young Guardians were amazed at their Captain’s determination and stamina. Escorted by Defender Vindex, Captain William started his long journey back to Baldur’s Gate, wondering just how long he had been away, and just how much he had missed… Looking to Vindex, he queried his rescuer. "Has anything happened since I've been gone?" ///hehe, I think I over did the blood and gore

The air was so cold that with every expulsion of breath a cloud of mist would appear and swirl about before it was whisked away into oblivion by the harsh mountain wind. Captain William pulled his cloak tightly about himself and huddled up against the side of his horse for warmth. The horse, a large Waterdavean stallion, shivered and twitched as well.
William and his steed were alone in the mountain wilderness. He was somewhere high up in the Star Mountains, a range of craggy peaks south of the High Forest. A sealed package had arrived for him about a week ago at the Istari Tower in Baldur’s Gate, and William had left immediately after notifying the other heads of the guild of his journey. He had purchased one of the toughest horses he could find for the ride, for he knew that he would be traveling over some rough territory.
The sealed package had contained both a letter and a map. William had read the letter quickly in the privacy of his quarters, frowned at its contents, and then his face grew darker still as he studied the map.
The map, which was finely sketched and highly accurate, had marked the small cliff top clearing were William now stood. He could hardly imagine a more reclusive meeting spot. He had followed a narrow winding trail up through the pine-covered mountains, slipping on rocks and loose stones every step of the way. The constant wind biting into his flesh like a wild animal didn’t help much the climb much either. Eventually, he had reached the clearing, to find that it barely had enough room to set up a large tent. A second trail reached the clearing as well, winding up from the opposite side of the mountain. One edge of the clearing was backed by a sheer cliff that rose upwards to the mountain’s peak, while on the other side a precipice stood out over a colossal rock face, giving way to a breathtaking view of the valleys far below. The clearing was at the very edge of the tree line, and a step off the precipice would send one tumbling down far below to their death. William stood well away from the edge.
Rubbing his hands together for warmth, William glanced up at the sun to judge the time. It was almost directly above him, but its warmth barely had any affect up in these high mountains. He should be here soon, William thought to himself.
He moved his hand over the reassuring comfort of his sword pommel, but just as he did so, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, as if electricity was in the air. William changed his grip and held onto the handle of his sword tightly as a brilliant flash of light momentarily blinded him. Blinking his eyes rapidly to clear them, William was surprised to see a grew robed man standing in the center of the clearing.
The figure leaned against a simple wooden staff, and a grey cowl covered his face. He in no way seemed as if he needed to lean on the staff, for William could perceive a powerful stance underneath the grey robes. He almost felt as if he detected a smile from the depths of the cowl.
“Good day to you, Captain William,” spoke the figure in a confident voice. William thought the man’s accent sounded Southen… from Amn, perhaps?
William straightened up and moved away from the side of his horse. He tried to match the man’s self-assured posture. “Salutations… Who do-”
The man suddenly cut him off. “Do you have the pleasure of addressing?” The man chuckled, but the laughter didn’t seem directly hostile. “No names, Captain. That is how we shall work with you, for now…”
William slowly studied the figure up and down, trying to discern any useful information.
“It is sufficient to say though, that I am a trusted member of a conclave of mages to the south of Baldur’s Gate, and our goals are… somewhat similar to those of the Weave Masters…”
“Oh really?”
The man seemed to smile again. “Indeed, Captain. And I feel that we have much to discuss… and propose, to the Weave Masters. My organization could be quite beneficial to your guild…”
“I’m listening…”
******
The two conversed until the sky began to glow red with the coming of the sunset. When their conversation finished, the two did not shake hands, but merely nodded at each other. The mage vanished in another flash of brilliant light, while William wearily mounted his horse and set off carefully down the narrow trail. He had a lot to inform the Weave Masters about. Taking a long drink from his canteen, he started his long journey back to the Weave Tower to make a report to Nahum, Lyra, and Elias on what had happened...

As Elias stands at the podium in front of his peers he seems a bit nervous.
"Fellow Weavemasters, first I would thank you all for attending the ceremony today. It is your unwavering commitment to our cause that keeps us moving forward. As some of you have heard, I have been in communication with Exarch Nahum. He has asked that I hold this ceremony to promote those of you that have earned new titles. He also wishes to extend his gratitude to every person here for making the Weavemasters a shining example in aiding those who are in need."
"With that being said Lilly, would you please come to the podium." Elias points a long finger toward his apprentice. As she approaches Elias smiles warmly easing her nervousness. "Lilly Snyder, you have hereby been conferred the title of Elite Magus due to your devout study and dedication to the Weave's responsible use. Please, stand up front until we are finished."
"Next is Hendal, please approach master dwarf." Elias shakes Hendal's hand, and places the other on his shoulder. "It truly makes me happy to confer upon you the title of Seeker Hendal. Your diligence in seeing things that we would never know of has proven to be a great asset to us thus far, and your dedication has proven great as well. Please, stand up front next to Lilly."
Many times throughout the ceremony Elias glances to Lyra and William for confirmation that he is doing well.
"Two I will call this time. Foggy McGee, and Samah Sinistrad please step forward. The two of you have both shown yourselves to be worthy of the title of Arcanist. When you first joined I said that promotions would come quickly for you both, and it pleases me to see that this is so. Please stand with Lilly and Hendal."
Elias scans the crowd looking for one more. "Boddynock Namfoodle, please come forward." As Boddynock approaches Elias cannot help but radiate a huge smile as he looks out among his peers. "Boddynock, you will be granted the title of Magus this day. Your dedication has been unfaltering, and with time I'm certain you will be the greatest illusionist in the land." Elias motions for Boddynock to join the others up front.
"My friends, let us give a round of cheers for those newly promoted! It is with exceeding joy that I have been able to grant the titles given today! Please stay and join in the banquet, as always, we will have quite a grand evening!"

As day breaks on Istari tower two young elves can be seen poking around outside...
"This HAS to be the place Valenthel." Dallenthel said excitedly.
"Agreed. I hope Father doesn't lecture us for coming..." Valenthel said as he rolled his eyes.
The two approach the tower... Both nervous to see their father after disobeying him and coming to the mainland...

A Weave Guardian standing outside the Istari Tower and guarding the entrance notices the two men staring up at the building. Clearing his throat, he addresses them. "Excuse me, gentlemen. Can I help you with something?"
As he studies the two men, the guard can’t help but feel that they look familiar…

As the dawn breaks on Istari Tower a large bundle of flowers can be seen laying on the doorway. Placed beneath the flowers is a longsword with the words "Rest in peace Father..." etched in the blade...

Every couple of days Zolf arrives at Istari tower. During this time the kitchen becomes devoid of baked goods and any thing sweet that is edible. When he isn't eating, he can be found at the top of the tower watching the clouds. Or healing any injured people in the tower.
Grumbling as he walks down the halls Zolf remarks "Where is tah bloody Captain? Said he would get me some sword training."

S'ment sits in his private quarters within the upper levels of the Istari Tower. A bead of sweat rolls down his nose and drops to catch in his beard. His brow is furrowed and a look of concentration graces his features. In front of him is laid out his set of full plate armor. Patiently, slowly, lovingly he cleans each piece of plate and applies a thin coating of oil. Nearby his axe rests, also recently oiled and sharpened. It glints wickedly in the flickering candlelight. He appears deeper in thought than the task at hand would seem to warrant.
"Trouble is coming" he mumbles to himself. "Master Elias said I must be ready." He pushes the cloth into the breast piece and polishes at it with a firm circular motion. His thoughts go back to only a few days earlier when the strange woman approached he and Master Elias at the merchant camp on the river Chionthar with news of lich and curse. To be honest much of what they discussed made little sense to S'ment. Much of the history they discussed had taken place long before S'ment was pledged to the Tower. All that seemed certain was that the trouble was not over and what had made the most sense to S'ment was the concerned look in the Master's face and the nervousness in his voice.
Master Elias had said he needed to make an announcement about what he had learned but so far the mage had been silent. On their return to the Tower Master Elias hurried off to his chambers and that was the last time S'ment had seen the wizard. Since then S'ment had tried to busy himself and not speculate, but it was so difficult. He had one occasion for levity however when he encountered his friend Zolf on a visit to the kitchen. He had found his fellow Weave Guardian coming from the pantry-- arms laden with the cook's latest batch of pastry and pies-- a guilty streak of honey still smeared across his right sleeve where it must have somehow missed its fate at Zolf's infamous sweet tooth.
Zolf had either ignored or missed S'ment's look of mirth and grumbled something to him about the Captain. It seems he had come in from the wilds and curtailed his patrolling to train with the Captain in some advanced sword fighting techniques and now the Captain was nowhere to be seen. S'ment wanted to say something about the lady's cryptic tale and thought that perhaps the Captain was in council with Master Elias, but Master Elias was going to announce this and explain it better than S'ment could hope too. In the end he stayed silent on the little he knew, had wished his friend well and each had gone on their own ways. Now S'ment wished he had spoken with him further. Perhaps someone else knew something.
He had confided in Master Foggy, but that was because Foggy was his responsibility and he reckoned keeping the Gnome informed fulfilled that role somewhat. Foggy also had not seen Master Elias for some time but said he would speak to him about it when he did and counseled S'ment to follow Master Elias' advice and be ready for anything. This was something that S'ment could do and do well. He had been a warrior since before Master Elias was born he reckoned. He had retreated to his quarters and surveyed his equipment. His armor had really needed this maintenance and it was good to focus on the immediate task. He had been at it for hours and he was now done. Looking down at the highly polished plate armor and over to his axe again S'ment smiles to himself. "I am ready" he muses.

Watching Elias speak to the crowd from a window of the Istari Tower, Captain William headed down to speak with mage once he returned inside. As he headed downstairs to the entrance hall, he noticed a trail of pastry crumbs leading from the kitchen. "Hmmm... I really need to speak to Zolf before he eats everything in sight," William thought to himself with a grin.
He reached the entrance chamber just as Elias walked into the tower, and with a smile on his face he extended his hand to the mage. The two shook warmly.
“That was quite a brave thing to do, Elias… stepping out in front of that crowd like that and speaking with them. The whole thing could have turned hostile very quickly...”
With a grin, William continued. “I was quite impressed by that speech and your charisma, and I think the crowd was too. Hopefully, this open door policy will help dispel some of the rumors floating around about us.”
Glancing about the entrance hall, William lowered his voice a little. “However, I have some troubling news…” The Captain led Elias over to a secluded corner of the chamber before he continued speaking. “Tell me… have you heard of an organization known as the Cowled Wizards? I have recently been contacted by a member of this group with an interesting proposal. I’m not sure if we can trust them, but they are willing to offer us some useful assistance in exchange for some help…”

Grateful for the warm welcome and kind words from William Elias's eyes close briefly as he digests the information given to him. Opening his eyes slowly he gives a helpless shrug.
"I know little of the Cowled Wizards of Athkatla, only what I have read. I know that they exist due to the fear of rogue spellcasters by their citizens. I have heard as well that they hold prisoners in a place known as Spellhold on one of the western isles. That is as far as my knowledge of this group extends."
Seemingly looking through the Captain to the far wall he continues. "These are uncertain times my friend, and the renewed strength brought to us by a new agreement may be just what we need. I would know what it is they ask of us before I can give my opinion on this matter. I would also wish to know what sort of aid they would lend to us."
Elias looks back to the Captain and offers a smile of gratitude. "Perhaps we shall speak more on this in the morning hours. I would be most interested in the details of your meeting, and your opinion as to what we should do."
With that Elias claps William on the shoulder and nods. "Thank you friend, for everything."
