I am just curious how folks feel about PvP.
Me, I like it anywhere anytime. Respawn killing, and punking on lower level players on a regular basis are both in poor taste.
I have been killed via PvP more ways by more characters than I can count. I think it makes for a great way to balance the game. Good Vs. Evil etc.

Man I like it, alot. It sucks that people try and grief and turn others totally against it. Played well it can add a whole new twist to everything.

I like the ideal of PvP anywhere, but as we all know tempers will flare and he said she said and the next thing you know it is a big administrative headache trying to sort it all out.
My suggestion is to allow PvP only in designated areas like arenas, certain pubs, wilderness areas etc. Where the player knows full well that they could be waylaid without warning.

Driller, I agree with you from an admin standpoint.
Getting the blood boiling is a good thing, but some will lose it and feel as if they have been personally attacked, and it can have some detrimental effects on the community.

I think PvP adds a very good dimension to a PW. I'll never forget the first time I was against another player on a RP server, all ended well in the end and the DM's loved watching the RP from it. Sends your heart racing as it isn't just a simple Kobold you are facing!
Personally to avoid any grief for players I think it is always best to arrange the PvP in a tell just to make sure they are comfortable with it! Nothing is as bitter as playing an evil PC and being hunted by a whole load of higher level "good" PC's constantly throughout the gaming day, with predictibly messy results and anger!

well, fighting for no reason is stupid, but having to make your opponent sign a 12 side agreement before engaging in a fight is just as stupid...
personally i like anywhere anytime and no sneak crap...

Coming from a World of Warcraft pvp server, im up for any type of pvp. Of course i agree with the no camping/griefing, but being snuck up on is part of the fight imho. Keep that Spot skill high!

In my time playing both NWN 1 and 2, I have come to see instances of PvP where one of the parties actually had to leave the server due to anguish / resentment, and other cases where both parties showed good sportsmanship. However, I think we should concentrate on the former and not the latter. On every full PvP server there WILL be situations that lead to drama and bad blood. These situations are not fun for the involved members, the DMs, and the rest of the community. Therefore, to keep this issue to a minimal (its impossible to totally prevent it unless PvP is turned completely off), then there needs to be some sort of rule that restricts all out full time PvP.
Whether it be implementing rules where consent must first be made, or designated areas of PvP only, I firmly believe that something should be done. If there are no PvP rules other than the common "PvP must have an RP reason," then there will be drama / OOC conflict. Personally I hate these types of ordeals because not only does it detract from RP but its a real headache to have to witness and deal with. So in short, I think it would be beneficial for everyone if the PvP rules were stricter and more in-depth than what you see on most servers out there right now.

Those who don't want to fight can avoid or run very quickly through them ;D. As for me I will be the runner, till I feel I can hold my own. Over all glad this is being talked about am really happy. As for some servers they just give warning and that be that. Its nice to see some communication and opinions thrown around. I am very excited about this masterpiece's debut. ;D

Anywhere, anytime.
Griefing is unacceptable, however.

Alright alright, I admit I voted for the Both Parties to agree before hand... BUT only for the reason of the grieving or something else happening.
Normally I would say anytime anywhere, but there will be some dumb asses out there that take that as open season on anyone randomly on the server..ugh the headaches..

Normally I would say anytime anywhere, but there will be some dumb asses out there that take that as open season on anyone randomly on the server..ugh the headaches.. I've actually witnessed this first-hand while DMing on an old server - a small group of griefers were running around town killing every PC that passes by and forcing them to give them all their gold. If they didn't comply, they would kill them on sight. Then, after everyone stayed clear of the town, they got bored and killed all the NPCs. When confronted with their actions, they merely said "This is a full PVP server, and we roleplayed first before killing." I then proceeded to ask them why they killed every single npc guard in town, and their response was "We're evil." So in light of this, I propose PvP rules that are more in depth than the standard "PVP must have an rp reason." This is too easy to manipulate, griefers will make up all types of excuses for their PVP and try and pass that as "RP". So in order to prevent this lame but surprisingly popular response from them, there needs to be clear and strict rules so that they can't weasel their way out of punishment.

IMHO, paired with what Driller indicated, that unless a char's profile indicates otherwise, that PvP should be full on. There can even be a code system where a char can indicate a PvP factor in the profile such as:
PvP Factor 10: PvP any time anywhere, baby PvP Factor 9: I don't accept sneaks " " " " " 8: RP before PvP . . . . . PvP Factor 1: I don't PvP at all for any reason
If no annotation in the profile, than the default is Factor 10.

I've actually seen this type of system before as well. However, on that particular server that used it, the default was "NO PVP" instead of full. Then, there was a thread on the forums titled "PvP Consent"...if you sign your name on this thread, that means you consent to PvP anytime, anywhere. I think the intention behind this system is good, but if a server becomes very well populated, its hard to know who signed their name and who didn't. Sometimes the heat of rp doesn't allow you to minimize your client and check the web boards to look for a single name out of a hundred, which in itself is time consuming. So I think that a more efficient system would be needed... Such as consent through tells. So if rp were to lead to a potential PvP situation, one or both parties would need to send a tell to the other asking if they consent to PvP. If they say yes, then its on. If they say no, then it would be against the rules to attack them. Of course a screenshot of the tell from both parties for reference would be a requirement in case dispute arises and a DM needs to intervene. If no screenshot is taken by either member, then the whatever outcome occured resulting from the incident stands as is. This system is very efficient - in that it is quick, easy, and is effective and applicable in practically all situtations. IMHO, paired with what Driller indicated, that unless a char's profile indicates otherwise, that PvP should be full on. There can even be a code system where a char can indicate a PvP factor in the profile such as: PvP Factor 10: PvP any time anywhere, baby PvP Factor 9: I don't accept sneaks " " " " " 8: RP before PvP . . . . .
