Crafting
This would be the most important addition, IMHO. Basically, the average RPG character will need to upgrade his/her gear constantly, and by my limited knowledge of the server (lvl 6 now), the only way to do it is grinding + going to merchant, which usually means no RP, no XP, and not much fun.
Wouldn't it be better to collect several different drops, or even buy them from other players, so you can either craft the item or go to a more experienced crafter to do it for you? This would force interaction, and motivate players to visit areas that otherwise may not be rewarding. Great roleplaying opportunities too. Not to mention that the crafting mods already exist, so the only difficult part would be adjusting the loot tables.
Remember that crafting doesn't mean that you can make as many swords +5 as you want, as usually there is always a rare component in each recipe, like a diamond, as example. Just by controlling the rarity of this final ingredient, you control the overall availability of powerful items.
And the roleplay source this will be is amazing. An experienced alchemist may hire young adventurers to get him goblin parts. A weaponsmith may contract a party to travel to the most distant areas to collect ore from a mine (respawns once per day or so, and he doesn't want to run through all these zones everyday).
Quests
I find them a little scarce, but I understand they're being added in beta 6, and I understand they're a lot of work... so make them long, involving lots of travel, waiting (spawns on certain days of month, rare drops from deep within dungeons), etc. so they're not completed quickly and you get the most playing time out of your scripting effort.
Also it would be a good idea to require groups for some of the stages of a quest.
Economy
Loot is almost nonexistent in the areas I know. I agree that a slow economy is something good, but currently in the zones I know (up to beregost to the south, up to sharp teeth to east) all you can do to get money is hunting wolves, and man, that is boring. Maybe mobs could drop some weapons that could be sold, or if that can slow the server, make them drop money, example, a Gnoll could drop 0-3 gold, a goblin 0-10, orcs 3-12, etc. Still worse than hunting wolves, but over the days you will end up having some money to buy armor.
Almost as important as to how to bring money into an economy, is to know how to remove it, but I think the next beta with shrines and more items like potions and so will take care of that. Remember that if you add new forms to spend but no more sources of gold, eventually gold will dissapear and people will rarely spend it.

I would like to see custom base classes and prc's. Some pertaining to certain deities and some not. Like Ice Fury of Auril for example.
Also, custom weapons and armor. Perhaps an actual appearance crafter similar to the one in the toolset to be implemented IG , so we may alter colors and models.
Maybe, cutting down on some of the spell FX to lessen lag. Like certain spells and blessings dont really need the FX appearance.
I dunno , just a few things I thought I would throw out there.

Particles are handled client-side. It doesn't lag the server, or shouldn't. I think you can disable them in video options.

Ice Fury sounds really familiar... like From the Sundren Design team if I remember right. Custom classes and other PrC hak packs will be added at a later time, right now we are focusing on getting some other things set up first, so dont worry mate.

yeah that makes two of us.. I made all of their items for them.. then they gave me the boot because of some spelling errors and issues they caused in merchants.. Think my name is still on the contributors list. I was around when they first started thinkin up that class. -Ice

Sorry if this already has been suggested, but the thread is so long and i didn't bother to read it all through.
I would love to see escort option, like an ox carrier with goods from town to town. if you keep the ox alive and secure its arrival to the next town, you get a little xp and some gold. it could even be made so that you invest your own goal up to a set amount and you get a % reward of the invested goal on arrival.
Also, I'm a big fan of crafting!
lastly, I've seen scripts that strip the animations from buffs, helps lag, graphic lag and it will keep players without spell craft from meta gaming against spell casters.

Yeah those spell buff scripts are great.. that way everyone doesnt walk around like a damn christmas tree. Crafting is being fleshed out at a later time, though with the new merchant setups there should be stuff there to keep people slightly busy... thats all Im sayin on that The escort things could be cool, but due to lag and walkmesh it may not work all to well.. but worth a shot. -Ice

These are my issues compiled so far:
Cloakwood: Cloakwood is supposed to be famed for being infested with spiders and have a decent amount of Ghouls, Ettercaps, Tasoli and a few Wyverns. Right now it's full of Minotaurs, Lizardmen, Treants and whatnot.
Minotaurs live in underground labrinth's and not in this region of the Sword Coast. Treants live in enchanted forests that are ruled by Elves, Lizardmen are supposed to live in swamps or underground. Beholders live in the Underdark and not any old abandoned mine. Ordinary rats shouldnt really be a type of monster to kill since all level one commoner could kill scores of them easily.
The Cloakwood mine is also supposed to have once been Dwarven clanhold before the Iron Throne sluaghtered them all. At this date in 1350 it should still be in the hands of Dwarves.
Candlekeep:
At this date Gorion should be a young man in his prime and traveling with the two Harpers Khalid and Jaheira, instead of being old and standing around Candlekeep, also he shouldnt be bald. He should be a Wizard/Cleric.
Ulraunt (Wizard) is supposed to be the First Reader though relatively young at this point and Tetheroil (Wizard) is the Keeper Of The Scrolls and should be..relatively old i think. Phileia (Dont remember the spelling) would be a todler at this time and wouldnt be running a shop.
Baldur's Gate:
No idea if Tamoko was removed or not, regardless she would also be very young right now.
You should give the Flaming Fist guards helmets instead of hats with feathers in them.
Duke Eltan should be a young man, Scar should be a young man.
Beregost:
The temple of Lathander should be a ways off to the side of the village, on another map.
Taerom Furium (Fighter) should be a young man at this time out adventuring and wielding a giant war mace. The Thunder Hammer smithy should not exist yet.
The Flaming Fist is supposed to have a garrison in Beregost.
Nashkel
It's supposed to be a mining town next to a mine which supplies all the blacksmiths/armies/adventures with weapons and armour up and down the Sword Coast. I read you burned the town down so adventurers could reclaim it eventualy though so.. Just thought i'd point this out. Without this mine/town it would be like the iron crisis in BG1.
Basically with npc's if they are human and they were young in BG1 they would be little kids at the most right now.
A proper loot system should be added as soon as possible, this is proberly the most important thing.
+3 equipment should be buyable from merchants. +1 and +2 doesnt cut it in my opinion. Right now the only +3 item is a quarterstaff. Also theres alot more powerfull spellcaster equipment in stores then there is stuff for non spellcasters.
Chests, boxes etc with loot in them should be added eventualy.
Better equipment than you can get in stores should be attainable from monsters, bosses, chests, DM quests etc.
Remove the fugly change appearance system and put in a better one or the old one which was also better. If we could customize what our armour/weapons look like in the toolset and mail it to a Dm to put in the server it would be really great.
Red Wizards:
Theres no way they could pull a fast one on the Dukes of Baldur's Gate and convince them they are on the level, there is just too much hatred between races/countries. Also Duke Eltan is supposed to be a very powerful Fighter or Paladin as i recall so it's not like he's an idiot. The only thing possible would be mind control but then if they could do that they would be ruling the city from the shadows instead of hawking slave made wares. If you recall BG1, Edwin the Red Wizard had to hide his indentity in fear of being beaten to death by an angry mob.
Placeholder monsters like the overpowered skeletons, Goblins etc should be replaced.
This is all i can think of for now.

Beregost was designed exactly how the source books state it. Nashkel was burned down not only so players can reclaim it in a later event, but because the need for another town wasnt here yet. Placeholding monsters are in place ALL over the realms, these will be replaced in time, and several monsters have already been made to take their place. Others will be made as time permits. However some monsters will be in unexpecting places mainly because they can be more interesting than some oversized insects.. Also there is another good thing about changing some things up, primarily for those who read into the content to much, know what they are dealing with and know what to avoid.. hence we change stats, appearances, and who inhabits where The merchants that were supposed to be in Beta 6 contain +3 gear, and all sorts of goodies for everyone and everyclass. More gear will be added as well. Josh is working on getting the correct merchants into the game. Keep in mind some of the highest level classes have gotten to where they are with +1 or +0 items.. it may not be fun, but its possible.. Minotaurs are being used just because it was a cool looking monster hak and we wanted to add some more flavor to the mod. They may be moved to a different location and beefed up a little bit.. so keep your eyes peeled. Cloakwood Mine may indeed be switched to a dwarven clan hold when we get some more time, or Ill dig through my areas and see if I have something made and fitting for it. Im always up to seeing more places for civilization. The flaming Fists you see in scale male with feathered hats where made well before my time. The new NPC's made for the Fists should take their place soon. Duke Eltan looks like a middle aged man possibly in his 30's or so. Scar looks to be a young man Loot scripts and how to attain better gear is deffinatly in the works and has been for a while now. The system is constantly getting tweaked, though your best bet for getting coin is either through quests or DM events. I personally have shifted from giving a generous XP reward to more coin. The Red Wizards are under DM Wizards command.. its his way of compensating for the merchants who arent in game right now... if you want him to stop selling goods that players need.. then Im sure he wouldnt mind.. he will just play the Thayans as ruthless killers instead Anyways hope this gives you insight as to where some of your issues are mate. Thanks for the input. -Ice

I would like to see more exotic weapons like bladed gauntlet. I think they would look cool. Also I think the churches should sell curing potion and off to heal you for a tithe which would get ride of any status effects. I got hit by a wraith and had to find a shop that sold a potion of lesser restoration to get ride of the effect.

I'd love to see the Friendly Arm Inn... I don't think it's here, but I could be missing it, somehow, I suppose.
