Based in Baldur’s Gate, is an organization that promotes merchant safety through good roads, road patrols and defensible waytowers, and strong, well-run and well-guarded caravans. The League is a rival to both the Merchant-Kings of Amn and the newlyformed Iron Throne, and runs many caravans under guard for small independent caravan masters, for very reasonable fees. Prominent members of the League are Irlentree, Zorl Miyar, and Aldeth Sashenstar. All are successful merchants themselves, who reside in Baldur’s Gate. The League is an organization in decline, however; the rise of the various costers is replacing its functions and sapping its traditional support.

Samin Ashall a chaotic good rogue and follower of Deneir, currently lvl 9, would be interested in working with the Merchants League. I realise there isn't a lot happening with this Guild at present, but his hand is up for work when the time comes along.

My character has an interest in the League, and seeing it stay prosperous as part of the status quo. Not sure how the auto-quest with them is supposed to work, but I've tried talking to the NPC there, and hanging around the building in solo RP several times.

This thread has caught my attention. Is the merchant league still in need of a proven warrior?

I would be interested in getting one of my characters involved with this guild.. the character in question is already guilded but this would work well as a side-venture if there ever comes a time when it is active again. I've worked a bit as a pc-merchant here and there and one of the character's disguises is a merchant.

We can always have a new grouping. Maybe we can get this rolling again.

There are a few problems I can forsee with this guild because of what it is and what it does, which probably leads to it's slow movement..
Being a merchant consortium, the activities of the guild would be along the lines of guarding caravans, picking up supplies, and that sort of thing.. which would require DM intervention to run well.
Being that the DMs are being asked to go a million different directions, dedicating one to a defunct guild probably isn't the smartest idea....
Can you think of ways this guild can be used well and player-run with minimal DM help? (like the Weave Masters, The Fist, and a few others?)

Alright, I've got the ball rolling on this. We'll see how far it goes, but with any luck, there should be something by the end of the year. ;D

Sheritomo may get involved with this guild if it gets off the ground.
Just a quick suggestion on a possible way to make the guild more autonomous. Perhaps a history feat (or an item, but that could be pick-pocketed) could be made that marks a PC as guild member. Once that is done, special merchant NPC's could be set up that grant quests to move goods between cities. It would be nice if this somehow resulted in the stores being restocked with useful expendable items. It would be up to the guild members to form parties so they don't get ambushed by evil DM's who want to create a ruckus.
That's probably alot of work to implement and isn't a very refined idea but I thought I'd just toss it out there for people to mull over.
There needs to be some sort of gold and xp bonus involved to encourage players to RP caravan formation and trading as opposed to more lucrative grinding. Of course there also needs to be a danger of bandits and ambushes to keep things from getting dull.

Unless something could be scripted for it, I'll just have to run everything personally. If I think of a way to make it more playable without DM supervision, I'll be sure to mention it.
