Maybe you could copy the basic idea of the SoZ Bounty bag, which automatically stores certain tagged items that a player picks up so they never appear in his normal inventory at all. Then valuable items could be transported from place to place and sold from one trading consortium to another in the same way that bounties are. Heck, why not use the trade bars system? That's even more efficient and requires no tweaking of the inventory at all!

That's even more efficient and requires no tweaking of the inventory at all! This sounds like a plausible idea. I almost suggested giving guild members actual items from various cities to bring to stores but quickly realized that such items would likely get "lost" along the way. Perhaps it would even possible for the tagged items to be removed in the event of a successful bandit raid. The designated organizers would be responsible for ensuring that the caravan has a sufficient numbers of guards present.

Has anyone thought about possible ranks yet?
If not, just suggesting that there could be two possible paths to play:
Merchant Path: Merchant's Apprentice, -> Merchant's Hand, -> Merchant, -> Caravan Master. Caravan Guard Path: Caravan Boy/Girl, -> Caravan Guard, -> Master of Guards, -> Caravan Master.
Merchant's apprentice: Fellow apprenticing under a merchant, doing mostly mundane tasks regarding Merchant's area of trade.
Merchant's Hand: Still working under a Merchant, however, having gained experience as apprentice and trust of the Merchant, Merchant's Hand is allowed to conduct small deals of trade in the name of his or her employer.
Merchant: Master of his own mercantile gain and folly.
Caravan Boy/Girl: Hired help for the caravan.
Guard: Does what guards do.
Master of Guards: In charge of the guards working under him or her.
Caravan Master: Runs a caravan. Often having years of experience on how to run a caravan.

I'd make it simpler and just use three ranks for each, something along the lines of:
Merchant:
Apprentice, Journeyman, Master
And for the guard, the same as you posted except for the caravan boy. Since most people on this server play some sort of fighting type, I think they'd start out as a guard.

I don't even know that 'ranks' are necessary when it comes to a Merchant Consortium. The leader of the guild is an NPC, the rest of the member would represent individual merchants that form a council to control the group as a whole..
Then there could be a pool of guards that can be hired out by those individual merchants.
A hierarchal structure seems out of place to me in a merchant guild.

Well, it would be simpler to just have merchants and guards. Of course, I'm thinking of a lot of things the guards could do other than guard a caravan.
I'm going to start going ahead with this now. I just need to organize a few things, but don't let that stop you from messaging me in-game about joining. I can set something up.

I'm interested in having my main character Teldar'Vaskar sign up with the league, is that still possible?

I'm interested in having my main character Teldar'Vaskar sign up with the league, is that still possible? Yes it is. The Merchant's League was on the back burner since there wasn't too much interest, but I'll still manage it. I have a feeling there will be more interest once crafting is in. I'm not on much and won't be for awhile, but I'll be around Sunday.

There are a couple merchant-ish PCs (my own character included) that might be interested in this group if it is still active.

The question is, was it ever active? Not while I've been around. But there does seem to be a little interest in this now so once I get back to regularly being online I'll see to this.

*A letter arrived at the Leage HQ*
Greetings fellow marchants,
I am Pito Lastcoin, from the Lastcoin Import/Export company. Me and my father are both co-owner. We buy, sell and transport a variety of goods across the sea of Swords.
We have a shop franchise called, "Lastcoin Item Shop". We have one in Waterdeep, where our HQ is also located. We also have one in Calimport.
We are now in the process of establishing a branch in Baldur's gate. City's official demanded us to have at least 9 investors. Wich we found the very next day.
The only thing we need now is to associate ourself with the local marchant guild. We are asking you a position in your organisation and if possible, help into the matter of building and marketing our franchise into your nice city.
Friendly salute,
Cpt. Pito Lastcoin Co-owner of Lastcoin Import/Export

The guild needs new members, specifically guards, at the time. Send me a PM or post here if you are interested.

Is the league in a weakened state against the iron throne at this point? I read lore somewhere on the site that the guild is in decline. Also, if you get caravans going, is there a way to make horses look like they are pulling the carts?

Right now the League only has one member and I haven't had the chance to really do anything. However, the Iron Throne isn't exactly booming with activity either. I have a feeling that whenever we crafting in that these two guilds will see an increase in membership. Also, they need another big city to travel to for trading. What fun would a caravan to Beregost be? As for the second question, I don't think there is anything that lets a horse pull a cart.
