Maybe we could give the players an option to choose perma death when they make a character? -driller We have no current plans to implement perma death that I am aware of. -driller No, not unless a player requests it. I believe it has been brought up once Driller and I was thinking by you but anywho it was something along the lines of having an option once you get to the fugue Plane to retire a PC if you want. But yeah Perma isn't really for everyone. a few like it for the danger aspect but most detest it.

Umm..
There was a whole follow up to that...
Please don't take my post out of context. Perma-death should be reserved for PCs who:
Break Rules, Meta-game to an extreme, request it, die eighty bazillion times trying to powergame, losing all essence, etc..
Perma-death should be an extreme, and a severe thing for moronic player who don't take death seriously enough.
If you just die once while hunting or anything, that's not perma-death. Please don't misquote me.

On a side note a little bit, it would be great if we had a system that lets PC's delete their own characters. This prevents a TON of hassle because alot of times they mess up creating their characters and this usually leads to all sorts of inconveniences like creating multiple accounts (hard to keep track of who's who), creating a ton of different PC's with slightly altered names (like the usage of commas and periods in names), and most importantly bugging DMs and admins to help remake their character (which I don't mind doing but I believe this is against the rules). If they could delete their own characters, it would save everyone alot of trouble. I know this is possible because I used to play on a PW that has this feature. I'm sure our scripters can easily implement this. As for permadeath, it should be only for PC's who choose this themselves with DM help and rp involved. I think its not right for a DM to perma a PC even if that PC is breaking the rules - once this happens just ban them and delete their character (if it comes to that). No need to perma them or turn them into chickens or penguins or humiliate them as this is unnecessary and immature. Maybe we could give the players an option to choose perma death when they make a character? -driller No, not unless a player requests it. I believe it has been brought up once Driller and I was thinking by you but anywho it was something along the lines of having an option once you get to the fugue Plane to retire a PC if you want. Yep. Totally agree. Things like PD should be a choice, and also self deleting characters would be great, as sojourn outlined.
It's when you start forcing things on players like PD or using PD as a punishment they (players) tend to stop playing. Ultimately the bottom line is always keeping in mind what is fun and makes your players continue to play. When things aren't fun any more, people stop playing and PWs die.

Theres not much you could do in the fugue...are you talking about wreak havoc on the PC's, or letting the PCs wreak havoc in the fugue. Cause if its the former, then it would be pointless cause after logging on and finding themselves in the fugue, they'll just log off right away and make a new PC with another GSID. If its the later then make sure you put the important fugue NPC's on invincible so that they won't mess up the server for the rest of the players.

Yeah just to add to the PD topic, from my experience, as soon as the player sees this is what happens apon death, they dont even bother with the PW.
As far as what Id like to see:
Quests:
The static quests arent needed as long as the DM events are frequent and they happen for EVERYONE, not just mid to high level PC's or those in guilds or friends of the staff.
Loot:
Gold you really need to balance along with items, otherwise people run about with weapons of doom striking anything and everything down. The mid-magic level would be kind of cool, like max Enhancement being +3 for a find/buyable item with some other properties on it, but anything greater being DM/Quest/Plot granted. The max gold on merchant thing is a BAD idea as someone could be selling a lot and drain the merchants or a rogue could come up and sleight of hand the merchant till hes drained.
Death:
Sometimes just having to run back to your party is harsh enough of a penalty. I know Jlf knows about THP's death system was if you died, you lost nothing, you just had to hike back to your crew. This was put into place because the people logging on may not always have a lot of time to play, or want to group, and dying only to lose the xp you gained for two days of playing was insane and detered people. I guess I dont mind the nothing penalty, but if you really wanted to lose something, 100 XP / level would be fine...unless getting that back is hard to do.
Items:
Knowing me, I like variety, colors, and stuff that looks cool. If I see someone wanderin around looking like Ronald McDonald I wouldnt take them seriously, and maybe seek out to attack such an abomination.. So Id like to see items with some style put into them, and some nice color matching added into it. The history or description of an item doesnt have to be much if anything at all.. really no one is going to read what your item is.
Overall I just would like to see something polished, smooth, and fun for everyone. Of course certain things can be adjusted later, but for the time being, anything would be cool.

Minsc!
I really do hope I see Minsc in one form or another, as a DM plot or whatever. I freaking love Minsc.

Yeah most of the npc's from BG 2 were great...I hope we see as many of them as we can. Minsc was also one of my favorites, as well as Anomen and Keldorn. I wonder if Carsomyr or Crom Faeyer will make a reappearance though.

BG 1 - Sarevok was the hottness... BG 2- Sarevok came crawling back to me like some piss ant.. turn off.. but he was cool none the less.
I enjoyed pissin off the cowled wizards though in town with my magic of doom.. and Icarus was cool as well for a topless sorc. . . thing.

Well, if we all stick around long enough you just might see both Minsc and Saverok. Here is the plan, but it still needs to be worked out between us..
The starting year when the Server goes live will be 1350, Year of the Morning Lord. Every three months or so we will roll off a year. Events that happen per the forgotten realms time line will happen the same as they did in addition to any player created events. The Time of Troubles happened in 1358, and the Bhaal spawn about 15 years after that. All we would have to do is move the Bhaal spawns birth dates up a few years. Which is very doable because lore never really stated when Bhaal foresaw his death, just the he saw it coming and started making babies.

Found your post at the NWN2 forums and wanted to drop in since I am still looking for a server to call home.
Some things I personally have been looking for after experiencing several other servers:
Server stability. The constant crashing and huge lag problems are a big turn off. Nothing is worse than wading through 100000 enemies and running across 10 zones only to hit a lag spike, die, lose all the exp from the last hour, disconnect, and have to do it all over again. This happens much too often on NWN2 servers.
Low-Med magic: this makes building a solid character more important than finding the right gear... Note that I despise diablo and wow type games because they generally require no thinking and require you to repeat the same runs over and over to stay competitive.
Kaedrins prc hak: cant imagine playing without it after playing on KOW. I would also throw in some of rearon (hope i spelled his name right) fixes. The hak allows for new class combinations, more spells to play with and hopefuly will make warlocks & other classes more worthwhile.
Solo content for times when you just dont feel like (or cant) goup... I dont like being forced to group all the time especially at higher levels. Would like to have some options and things to do alone as an alternative to grouping for higher end goals.
No impossible "secrets." I prefer the Zelda approach of dropping hints rather than creating puzzles that are impossible to solve without metagaming knowledge. If anyone remembers Higher Grounds on NWN, it suffered from this issue where the only way to figure out some things is by asking other or stumbling across it by sheer accident... this is not fun and not challenging. From the perspective of a game, its self defeating.
Easy on the cheese... i mean RP. I just cant seem to detach myself from reality that much. I dont mind some RP but I would rather aim at a common goal and talk about that than whining at the local pub. I get enough of that crap already in real life.
