I'm still trying to find out what happened: I was chopping some treants when the server crashed, when I come back online *poof* 5k of xp gone I can say it's quite disturbing ;D If it's a know problem, it should be fixed, because another loss of that and I go mad shooting someone

This is rubbish! I have lost 10k exp on lag/crash. It is totally not adequate to what is being said about 5% exp loss. My exp stripe has rolled back from about 65% to 2%. I lost half of day because of blasted lag. I'm fed up with the penalty and demand it's removal until the server is stable enough to deal these severe exp losses honestly.

200 exp X what level you are is the standard amount and is fair i think. I fail to see the reasoning behind such a insane death penalty and then theres the issue of losing exp if you are killed in pvp by offensive spells. Hopefully that will be fixed at least in beta 6. I remember when i lost 10977 exp from lag i stopped playing for two days because i couldnt be stuffed trying to get it all back again.

So what % of your total XP did you two lost?

The script I believe was supposed to take 5% of exp between two levels, not from all exp you have! Still if I had 100.000 exp this means I lost circa about 10% of it, not 5%! If you are level 2 and want to go to 3 and die when you are 2500 you should lose 5% of 2000 - the difference between levels, not 5% of 2500. I have lost a total of 2x4835=9670 exp more less. it takes 5% of your current state but I don't feel like counting it now

I am new here, but I really understood it until now as a 5% of your total XP.
But I can be wrong. And you seem to have lost 10%, so almost certainly I am.

So what % of your total XP did you two lost? Can't say that accuratly, but, as I had nearly 105k and lost around 5k, that's almost the 5% normal xp loss... The fact is... I did not die properly... not even went to the fugue plane ;D

Hmm we will look into it. Otomo will be the one who makes the changes and right now he is pretty busy with Beta 6. I realize it sucks guys. Bear with us, it won't always be this way. We still have a lot of kinks we need to work out.
The reason the exp loss is so high is because its easy to level and gain exp. This is sort of an offset that keeps people honest.

Well, personally I agree with a high cost death system, even if it takes away all the XP I earned in a day or two.

5% XP loss seems more than fair to me. And so far, I've checked each time I died and the XP loss was more or less 5% give or take a few points.
My method of avoiding lag kills when the server is so bad is to stay in the easier areas and do some RP rather than grinding. The game is more interesting that way anyway.

I agree with davidb, though I sometimes also get reaaaaaaallly angry about that, too (WHAT THE ***** MINOTAUR DID 2 CRIT HITS IN A ***** ROW AND NOW **** AND **** AND **************... or something like that tends to happen ) But then, difficult monsters and the fear of dying bring something into leveling (and also dm events), which makes me playing A LOT more cautiously than I´d do normal and the tension still nearly drives me crazy I quite enjoy this and it adds to the roleplay. Yet I feel sorry for all lowlevel non-multiclassed mages and rogues, as they probably suffer from the penalty even more than anyone else.

In manor, fighting skeleton-warriors on my own, i died three times. Just earn 6000 - death, just took it back - death and one more time. So i lost 6000+6000+6000=18.000exp in two hours. I was mad! ;D Next day i went there again. Thought of tactic, made plan, tried be very careful. I spent the whole day there. Eventually i took my 17 lvl, multiclas in a druid and now have animal companion. And i am very proud of myself ! lol ;D!!!
Exp lost is nothing - but if giants, who disarm, will took my six thousand gold coins axe, and i will not be able to have it back - that would be a drama! ;-))))))

I agree 5% of xp loss is quite fair... What is not fair is xp going away like that and I did not even died...
