I think all classes/races should be as they are now, no restrictions on what you're allowed to play. This includes making the Neverwinter Nine and Shadow Theif Of Amn prc's playable without the history feat eventualy.
However i think that once this place gets a scriptor the classes/races should all be balanced in power and regards to what they're supposed to be because lets face it, the game is woefully inbalanced.
How you would do this is to do what they're doing on the Nwn2 Bioware forum i guess. Make a thread for every class for suggestions on what they need to be balanced.
People dont like to admit it but how powerful a race/class is does go into the thought process of which race/class they choose. You will never get a 100% balance but the game could be alot more balanced then it is now with classes/races that are just plain better than others.

I had taken into account what I would think believable so my low level fighter became a priest(cleric) after proving himself on the field of battle and the field of honor and justice...I come from D&D old school when there were no prestige classes and a cleric could not use a sword! Not that I need to go back(I like my sword wielding cleric) but the extra-planer peoples are too much for me I guess...I think of the Grail Quest of Chretien and the the Excalibur movie when I look to D&D. I even took regular type cleric schools cause a cleric with mage armor and magic missiles isn't the cleric I was found of in my youth...and where is the class distinction with all the tricks now...a lot of it is min-maxing is all...oh well I'm getting too old for this I guess

As long as this game is based on D&D, there will *never* be "balance" in the way that modern video game players, particularly of the WoW school, want there to be. This is because D&D classes have never been designed to go head to head in terms of balance issues, but are rather meant to complement each other in an ideal party of 4-6 characters of differing classes. Their exclusivity of abilities and weak points versus strong points are meant to make them work best when supported.
I'm against class/race restrictions, and I am against "monkeying" with the mechanics and rules that characters are built under. The best way to measure how people play alongside each other is through good sportsmanship and willingness to include others in party environment. The rules may not be perfect but they went through a lot of design philosophy to interact the way they do, both in tabletop and NWN form. When you start to take out pieces in one place, it's like playing Janga, where pretty soon you have to keep the whole damn thing from toppling over. Leave the mechanics alone and concentrate on fostering good player attitudes. While there will always be someone who slips through the cracks, the truth is those type of players' staying power in a strong and mutually encouraging "good playing" atmosphere will not be long, as they will quickly grow bored and frustrated by not being accepted by the rest of the player base as well as the DM's.

About the clerics with magic armor and stuff: I think clerics in D&D are still supposed to only have domains of their deity, but NWN2 doesn´t really cover that. Makes a lot more sense though. I like the extraplanar races but they are kind of overused in the FR by now, they should be more planescape characters than anything else. Still they share the charm of all exotic races and that´s what draws players (so their numbers are all but the one suited to exotic characters).
But actually, I didn´t encounter one single drow and but one tiefling so far, so as for now I am quite happy with the race balance (in terms of numbers). As for the stats of races and classes, I don´t really care that much. Races are pretty nice balanced by obe (experience penalty) and nearly every class got a niche to fit in. In dm events, I think you would rather shine with rp than with stats (which the others can´t see anyways).

Hehe, I opened a BIG can of worms when I started this topic eh?
When the server goes fully fledged I'd like to get rid of the poweraces I play and just keep the bread and butter characters Ive got... Like Sen said it should be the RP not the stats that keep things fun ^^
