I know its a RP Lite server for all purposes but has anyone thought about what the class ratio would be along the sword coast? I imagine a lot of thieves, pirates, bandits, perhaps the odd fighter or two; but how many wizards, sorcerors or in particular certain prestige classes would you expect to see along the sword coast?! Things like RDD and Arcane Tricksters would be virtually unheard of right? I should imagine bards and harpers in particular might be a handfull although you would never know who they are ofc.. Bit of a random topic but I was just thinking when I made my Tiefling Wizard/Fighter/Eldritch knight (forgetting they have rogue favoured and truly screwing my character concept) that tieflings would almost never be seen! It just got me thinking, perhaps I should play as more you know, simple characters for a change... a farmer with scythe specialisation or something

Yeah its kind of getting old seeing every other person as an RDD or Fire Gensai with a Flamer hair cut. Not to mention how over powering they are compared to the normal classes.
I'm still not sure how I feel about some of these classes. They seem about as alien to D&D, or at least the D&D I have always known, as little green men. We may put it to a community vote before we go live on whether or not to keep some of the exotic classes.

Yea I played on one server and made a Fire Genasi, that was good game for me, I had people throwing water on my head constantly questioning me and putting me under suspicion of dangerous activity blah blah blah, and for RDD i have no idea what to do there.

It could provide some interesting RP if the RDD still had big red wings... unless someone flat out says "I am the disciple of a red dragon" you have a hard timing to knowing if someone is a RDD...

The first few days I logged onto the server, I saw a fire genasi, a water genasi, an air genasi, a tiefling, one drow, etc. I agree that the ratio of those to the "normal" races isn't what it should be. But this was about classes, so... I generally favor the simple classes myself (especially since I'm not really familiar with the newer ones). I know fighters and rogues seem boring when all that other stuff is out there, but those will probably become the rare ones eventually...

I agree that some of the more exotic prestige class's like RDD, shaodw dancer and a few others wouldnt be so prevailant.
But any base class can be prevailant, especially wizards.
For these reasons wizards should be very high in numbers.
You have the nation of Amn to the south, who are known for their wizards, (despite the presence of the Council of Six).
You have the magical acadamy up in neverwinter. You have the Luskan host tower of the arcane. You have the guild mages of water deep. You have the magic institutions in Baldurs Gate You also have a large tradeing city that connects to a lot of other cities that are known to have plenty of mages.

I would hate to see us ban or delete classes and races, that would really take away some very exciting features that a lot of people have been waiting to play. Some should maybe be restricted at some point (like needing to make an application), but please don't delete any classes or races. Keep in mind that this isn't PnP, its NWN2 which is only based on PnP.

The swordcoast would probably have fighters and rogues making a good portion of the heroic classes followed by wizards. I think that the PnP Commoner class would easily be the majority though...

There are easily mroe commonres then heros, thats for sure. Just because you cant see the merchants comeing in and out of town, just because you cant see other npcs on the road doesnt mean they arnt there. Due to server limitations we cant have have thousands of npcs in one area, is its up to us as players to use our imagination. Commers and NPCs will ALWAYS outnumber the heros. As for the Class relevence issue. Bans on certain class's/races?? I definatly dont think so. Restrictions/approval of certain class's races? I definatly think this should be implimented sometime in the future, thats just me though. Its kind of inhibiting to do such a thing, considering what Josh has envisioned for the server.

...I should like to remind them about DnD history that goes before my own time. There was a time when the Elvin race came out, and everyone and their bother and sisters cousin wanted to play them. This caused some problems, and TSR decided to add a feat to encourage players to pick human PCs. Nothing has changed. Uh, feats are a 3e thing. When Basic D&D came out there were elves dwarves humans and halflings. there were no classes. they each had their own abilities. 1st edition was pretty pure as well, it wasn't until 2nd edition that the game got destroyed by the publishers. (I liked a few things about 2e but as I see it, for the most part, the changes to the DMG and monster manual were a bad decision.) as for the non-standard races, I think things get a little stale after years of playing the same few classes and races. I like the addition of some races but the ones that are so unbalanced that they need a badly conceived thing as the ecl should have been scrapped from the outset. I don't have a problem with hundreds of bizarre creatures running around, but I would expect the locals to be calling the flaming fist any time someone different showed up. As for power building, I feel we all do it to some degree. Limiting these races and classes will ultimately cause players to look elsewhere for their online games. With that said I think these races should have their ecl subtracted from the highest levels they can reach. this would reduce the allure of the over powered races and to some extent the strongest classes. But this just the way I see it (Just so that others know; I have been playing AD&D/D&D since 1979.)

I honestly think that certain ECL races should be applied for in order to play them. Think of the rarity of certain races.For example, Underdark races would rarely be seen on the surface,if at all.Planetouched are also rare.
Also , certain PRC's are rare and not usually seen in everyday life in Faerun. This would include ,RDD,Neverwinter Nine,Stormlord,Red Wizard,Harper Agent,Shadow Thief,and of course Warlock.I believe these should also be applied for or even rewarded , if the rp is sufficient enough.
Also certain requirements should be met .For example, A stormlord must worship Talos and be of evil alignment.If role played properly , a certain feat could be awarded ,so the character may take the class.Which means,you need to know your lore for these type of classes.
Honestly,once there are too many of these rare races and classes , they should be closed until server population rises further.
In my opinion this would be the best way to deal with it.So everyone and their grandma isnt a tiefling warlock running around blasting everything with their beshadowed blast and such.

Harper Agent prestige - just taken by the player wish, surely is odd thing. Player must be taken to the Harpers by DM and then can take such prestige. I think it can be agreed with a DM when you start your PC, and then DMs will make a little quest for you, according to your correct RP of course. The same thing with RDD - you can be given wings only if you character roleplaying RDD corrrect, as Pandoriah, otherwise DMs should take away such prestige class from you (dont know how) Genasi....well, i think they are ruining Forgotten Realms atmosphere a bit, as aasimars and tiflings. Maybe they can be given to RPers, which proved them selfs? I would love to play kobold, good for my language barrier ;D its a pity that armor for them is not ready. But ogres, lizardman and pixie can change their armor. Just an idea. Those are some nice suggestions Bogus, would be awesome to play as one of those. I think the Kobolds, Ogres and Lizards could work quite well if they began in Sshamath or somewhere else in the Underdark. We will have to see what happens when the server goes Live! I personally would like to see some restrictions on race & class; if only to stop myself from being tempted to play a powerfull race or a cheesy class combination ^^ Ive got a Tiefling, Aasimar and a Lightfoot Halfling on the server at the moment.. if I had the ONLY tiefling and Aasimar on the server it would be fine but the fact that along with Drow they make up a large proportion of the server it seems less interesting than I first intended..

Storm of Zehir MODULES is introducing some extra races and classes this winter * Gray Orc - A more civilized version of the common Orc, albiet still violent and prone to instinctual outbursts. * Yuan-ti Pureblood - The "infiltrator" caste of the Yuan-ti, these evil humanoids appear mostly human, except for slight reptilian features that are easily hidden. i suggest that the new races be open as rewards ?
