Hang on everyone; be optimistic. They say this does not happen all the time. It will probably be back up real soon. I believe them.
If you are wondering what might be going on, see the subject "Login Lag".
If you are wondering what to do, see the subject, "What to do when the server is down".
*Another six pack later and I am going to bed*
I suggest the same to any other hardcore RPG Gamers that cannot wait.

Based on the statistics, one would think this is an unusual situation. The post seem to indicate this is not a reoccurring phenomenon.
However, there has been a surge in activity on the server, but @ 4 kb per sec average that I have been recording, I would doubt that as the primary source of difficulty (of course my records could be wrong due to software lag). The server puts out like a 100mb per sec max I think. That should handle it.
I would attribute these unlikely correlated events to Murphy's law.
Let's have faith in the undying urge of the masses to plug in for their fix of RP on the server.
I am still up and waiting, and my second six pack is almost gone.

The only explanation for the huge amounts of lag and constant down times is a Host problem. If Driller is having some sort of trouble with his internet I believe he should let us know. Or maybe with a large volume of players on the server his host computer or internet connection simply can't handle it. I'm not sure if I'm the only one wanting to know these things, but yeah.

The lag is probably caused by distance, the server is located in Sweden. Down time is caused by Obsidian bugs. The connections is 100Mbit a second, much faster than most public offerings. Well I mean you do have to admit the server is down a lot mate.. dont know if it really is OBE or distance, but its down a lot more than I have seen on heavily populated servers such as SoH or Sundren (back in the day). Those servers average(d) about 25 players all the time, and at peak times hit about 60 with no shut downs, and when they do experience such things its no more than 5 minutes tops. *shrugs* Ive just learned to put up with it over the course of my stay here, so it doesnt bother me really..

Thanks, -driller I read from patch 1.12 that dedicated server should support about 96 concurrent players. Though I could not find any specs that on what kind of hardware and intarnet connection this is possible. Any clues?

Yes, servers are able to support up to 96 players and given the specs of our server it should handle it with ease. Like many other popular servers they have all upgraded to 96 players, and some can get close to that number on peak hours. -Ice

i have figured out why the server is down so much Ice. Its because we as DM are using way to many placeable effects which cannot be deleted until the server is reset.
So until we find a way to delete them after placing them we need to stop using them altogether except for big events only. I have noticed a few times right before a crash we have placeable effects strewn everywhere.

Yeah it is probably it. The last server I`ve palyed was also lagging for this specific reason.

I know you've probly heard this one before but its something DM's used to preach in Moonlight & Shadows: DONT USE AWSD to move!! Apparently because its a more complex process then 'Move from point A to point B using pathfinding'. Using the keyboard to move uses many more packets of information to confer movement then clicking a final destination however small it may be with the mouse! *edit* added an 'e' to mouse
