Currently
Phase: 1
Duration: 1hr
When: Today, 3:00 - 4:00 PM GMT-5/ US EST (Server Time) / 7 hrs from this post.
This is a three part migration of both physical and software that will span over the next month to two months. Each phase managed will produce expectingly better results than the prior configuration. The first phase is physically moving the machine from one facility to another, where we will have 100% power, and internet access, removing external problems where possible. It is a planned one hour downtime as we will have to reconfigure the machine and OS to the new network infrastructure. The result of the first phase will be stabilizing pings, increasing dedicated network flow, as well as introducing the server to 11 separate carriers and performance routing techniques. (Only three machines sit between the new site and Japan, just to give you an example, only one from the new site to the UK).
The second phase is a shorter downtime as we introduce Anti-DDoS, firewall, and packet shaping techniques to maximize throughput, permitting data to be updated at the same time of an active game server and not hinder the players. It will also secure the system further from intrusion, attacks, and more.
The third and last phase is the longest, taking place very early in the U.S. morning during a week day as statistically is the lowest amount of players connected, projecting a possible two hour downtime. This is the migration of the OS, the game server, and all of it's assets from one machine to the new machines, with the expectation of significant server performance improvements to the tune of the fastest machines outside of a cluster.
I'll update this thread as progress moves along.
