I suppose I could write me name here... I don't think I play all that much. Mainly on weekends. How to use the DM client? No idea. But I tend to learn fast. As for lore regarding Forgotten Realms, I know a bit. (I've read some of the fantasy novels, played some of the DnD computer games.) And I tend to find out things if I do not know enough. Knowledge about the PW itself: What? You say there are areas beyond Baldur's Gate and the bandit caves? I like to write dialogue. And so on...

I know I'm new to the server, I've played both on Necrosis and on baldur's gate and have been a D&D Enthusiast for some time now and have started my own Pen and Paper campaign in real life and a Writer in my spare time.
Not sure how much this will change in the coming weeks and months but I notice I'm online often when there's alot of players but not generally any DM's and would be willing to fill the breach.
I own icewind Dale 2, Neverwinter Nights 1, 2, Baldur's Gate and Throne of Bhaal.

Raenir, do you have any experience with the DM client at all? That would be one of those skills where you will need at least some familiarity with it. Our DM staff can train you on it if need be, but you need to have some grasp.

Being a Major in Compsci I don't think itld take long to learn/handle. Is there a sample module available I can use to learn it?
I found a tutorial online, while the server is down I will study it.

I've sat in Comp Sci courses where those majors did not know how to even install Windows XP. Undergraduate computer science degrees are a joke.

Its pretty easy to learn. Someone can run you through the basics in a matter of minutes. The problem with learning the DM tool is there is no how to's on it.

But these things are taught along with a good grounding in nearly every every industry standard Programming Languages.

at some point int he tutorial about mutliple creature movement it asks for me to using CTRL to drag a box over a bunch of NPC's. This doesn't work all it does is make my avatar move around. Is there an alternative key?

As it might prove helpful, here is the Vault Link for a DM Tutorial: DM 101 for NWN2 nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2ModulesEnglish.Detail&id=296I recommend it to anyone who´s planning to start as an DM, since it lets you get a grip of the basic stuff pretty quickly. Also, I think this was the module raenir was referring to. About the CTRL: As far as my experiences with that go, you have to drag and select the npcs you want to move while holding CTRL, then use SHIFT + Click to actually move them. It is quite irritating at first, but it does work.

This topic is starting to interest me as well. The have been many of times that the sever is full of pc and no dm around. I plan on checking out the tutorials for the dm client in the near future but what else is required besides knowing the basics of it? to be honest I have played the game on pc and in pnp but I have never dm'd before. I have looked into dm'ing and know more or less how the whole process works and I am always open to criticism and tips on what I do. So what else would I have to do to become one if I did decide I wanted to be one?

Aside from being more than just aware of the lore, you have to be mindful of the play styles of those you're trying to cater to. Being a DM, your administration duties sits second fiddle to enhancing the world in some reasonable fashion, much of your time upfront should be spent in observation so you're better suiting yourself and the player for what's coming. Keep in mind that as this server is more casual in it's RP demands and styles, your events, quests, and the like should remain as an option and never enforce it onto players that do not want it. Setup a base mod with DMFI and practice with it in detail to get a good feel of the mechanics behind it, giving you a first hand experience to identify the game's limitations and those of your own. Keep your mind open to various opportunities. Anyone can DM, but not everyone can express talent through the game. Too often I've seen DMs fall back on throwing players into quest after quest, making the world no less repetitive than the world of those who're grinding instead, or designing the same type of NPCs with similar personas and favored styles (the omfg powerlevelled elminster-esque character who shows up at random times to help players is old - get some new content please.) Then again, what do I know? I'm just a monkey flipping switches.

Kool. Thanks. I know what you mean by repetitiveness. I used to play pnp with a dm who always had the same starting for all his quest and forced us to do certain things which took some of the fun out of it. I suppose I will give the DMFI tool a shot some time soon, with new years here it will probably be next week. I the main reason I want to try the dm thing out though is to make more events available to the pc's. With the UD being launched soon I would imagine that the dm events will be split into different areas.
Besides flipping switches can you dance to? or better yet dance and flip? ;D

A word to all DM's/Potentials, this job can be demanding, it can be annoying and it can be rewarding. But as you go along your career and think of things to run, it can and will burn you out at some point. The reason you dont see some of our current DM's on right now is either because of time limits or burn out. I may not be on a lot with my DM account, but I still run events through my PC (Those events are more or less small side jobs, and RP interactions/stories/rumors of the area) Other DM's are also on in different time zones as well. If you are applying, please just state your time zone, and know that is can be a demanding job -Ice

The only dm's i usually see on is Cephas, Eldur, and Carnifex. They werent on for the holidays and that probably why I didn't see them for a while but they are good dm's. I just hope that in time if I do become a dm that I can live up to there legacy as being fun, fair, and original. My time zone is PST. I live in Cali. I usually only play five nights out of the week when my girl is at work, she works a night shift 7pm- 7:30pm. I understand it is demanding and can only hope to be as good as other dms out there but of course maintain a sense of originality. If I am given a shot I would to my best on this server to make my events fun and fair for all.
