Hello beautiful people of Baldur's Gate, it's JPD here with a few more helpful hints to make your gaming experience more enjoyable. Although I am not a DM on this server I am an old school PNP DM and want to pass on a few ideas that will help you stay in better relationships with our DMs and other staff.
1) DMs are busy people. Like you they need to sleep, eat, work, take care of their families, run errands, walk their dogs, etc. All of that along with creating events, plots, items, scripts, dealing with other players and being in conversation with other DMs. Please understand that they're dealing with their lives along with the lives of dozens of other people besides you.
2) DMs are not Santa Clause and are not here to give you your pony. That Ring of Protection +4 is not coming and it's not coming any faster if you send a PM or shoot him a Tell in game. The number one way not to get an item is to ask for it. I promise. If you want that Belt of Frost Giant strenght Ossian Entertainment has made a beautiful original campaign where you can get every item you desire.
3) DMs talk to other DMs. They know more than you do. If you disrespect one, you'll disrespect all.
4) You are not the center of the world here. I know in real life it's all about you: Your time, your money, your preoccupations, your priorities, your schedule, your wants, your needs and your desires. Welcome to a world were you're not the center of attention and you don't call the shots.
5) DMs are impressed by good RPing, balance, IC forum posts/bios/stories, encouragement, appreciation for their effort, staying in character, humility, humor, cooperation, teamwork and you having a good time. Instead of huffing and puffing that you're not level twenty-five and don't have a perma-haste item, how about you create a cool bio? Or start a journal? Or send a new player a Tell welcoming him or her when you see an unfamiliar log-on handle?
6) Ask how you can help. If you have time to complain or pine for items you're not going to get, you have time to learn how to give yourself away for others around you. There are plenty of ways to serve and each player has different gifts, talents and desires made for the sake of other people.
7) Patience, patience, patience. DMs watch you over long periods of time. Just because you RP well once doesn't mean you're the candidate for a 3,000 XP reward or the Elven Chain armor. DMs will reward you over time. Rest in the fact that whatever it is you desire may never come or come over a long period of time.
8) Yes, you will be looked over. People are limited; they can only pay attention to so many people in a certain amount of time. There will be many times that your good gaming will go unnoticed by DMs. Don't sweat it. There's always tomorrow and you can always RP another day.
Feel free to add anymore thoughts to this thread. Thank you everyone for what you put into this server. It's awesome and it's only going to get better.
Peace, -JPD
