((This is an IC post to finish up some RP during an incident that both the DM and one of the players involved were unable to finish in game. If you weren't involved it won't be very interesting at all.))
Te'alis looked down at the corpse on the floor and back to the door. Arivain should have been back now with the guard. What was taking him?
The mage on the floor had started a fight with three citizens of Beregost and had been bested in clear view of Thunderhammer but would the guards be as understanding? Te'alis could only hope that the witnesses would convey the story accurately and fairly.
As Arivain entered with a temple guard behind, Tensoran and Arivain calmly explained the situation with the help of Thunderhammer while Te'alis wisely shut his mouth...
((IC responses from those involved are welcome so that the DM involved (Haunted) can handle the situation ICly))

Arivain returns with a guard, and a distinct lack of haste, only to find a body.
"Well, sir, I apologize for wasting your time-," he begins, then blusters at an unfair accusation. "Murder? Murder! Clearly this was an act of self-defence. You see, this is how it happened..." Arivain pauses the briefest of moments for a deep breath, then launches into a quick and lively explanation that brooks few if any interruptions from the guard or onlookers.
"My friends and I, the erstwhile Elf and Mage - no, those aren't their real names, it's just what I call them - Elf and Mage had just returned to your fair town and our home to engage in a little commerce. Whilst discussing the takings of a recent foray to push back the monstrous presence near Nashkel (and all too close to here) a man- Hm? Yes, the dead one, that man. A man accused us of being common thieves! We patiently explained that we were adventurers, but he did go on and on, his insults descending until his blades were unsheathed. At which point I felt it prudent to ask the valiant and valorous Lightbringers to intervene a'fore bloodshed ensued, but I'm afraid I was a tad bit late. I can promise you that my friends would not have done violence here except in self defence, but as for further elaboration..." Here Arivain pauses breathlessly, looking around the room before fixing eyes on the nearby Tensoran and smiling.
"Why, the best to speak of what happened would be Mage there, who no doubt saw all."

Tensoran leaned back against the wall watching the entire event unfold. Looking over to the guard while Ponce and Elf explained, the situation, and, when prompted to speak...
"Yeah. Old man comes in and starts talking to us. Elf calls him 'kiddo'. He calls everyone kiddo. It's his thing. Anyways, the old man takes offense to it and Elf.. Te'alis. Reminds him that he's, well, an elf, and really older and more experienced that he is, being a human. The old man gets really pissed, pulls out a pair of blades and says he'll kill him for it. Then he looks at me and tells me to leave because 'When I fight, I kill all.' I hadn't done anything but stand there and mention that Thunderhammer probably wouldn't enjoy people gutting each other *right next to him*. The old man didn't care. He cast Stoneskin, and started casting something else. Since first rule of mage combat is "Don't let the wizard cast.", Elf started fighting. I figured if it went badly, he'd come after me despite me being a bystander, I helped put him down. It went fast. Ponce... Arivain... ran off to get a guard and, well, here we are."

The Lathanderian guard slams open the the front door of the smithy and barges in with blade drawn , just to find a dead man upon the floor in a pool of blood. He gives everyone in the room a hard look as he sheathes his blade.Kneeling down , he checks the victim for pulse. " He is dead.....What happened here? Pray that there is justification in what you men have done." He listens intently as each one of them gives their account of what previously transpired leading to the death of the elderly man upon the floor." Self defense is what it must be ruled as for now..I will have more men come over and remove the body to have him resurrected to hear his account of the tale as well.We may call upon you three and Thunderhammer for more questioning...For now the man is to be incarcerated.I only wish I could have made it here sooner to prevent this."He gives them a stern nod and departs to get more men to remove the body and clean the place up.

Erulaan awakes in a dark room with a throbbing headache and bandages covering multiple wounds. He has just a moment to realize he is in a jail cell before he falls asleep.
"Get up old man!" screams a guard as he ushers in a man in fine clothing. Before Erulaan can respond the man introduces himself.
"I am here to represent you. I need to hear what happened, so that I can better understand any charges that have been filed against you.'
'Charges?" says Erulaan. "Charges for what? Being assaulted?"
"Well, thats the problem". Says the man in the fine clothes. "It seems that the magistrate has ordered you jailed until they hear your side of the story, so I suggest you make your statement to me."
The old man looks perplexed and frail. He begins to speak with a shallow and dry voice. "Ok, here is my statement of what happened. Remind you, I don't even know how I got here, only that I have been wounded. I was visiting with my old friend Thunderhammer, we go back ages you know, when I overheard a few men speaking of having taken items from others. Murdering them to take their posessions they said! They were boasting and laughing as if it were nothing but a game to them. Well, I may be an old man, but I know an injustice when I hear one!" For a moment Erulaan's eyes sparkle as his brows furrow in somber disgust. "As a long time citizen, and elder, of these here parts I saw it my duty to question them, so that I might get the information of their operation to the proper authorities." Erulaan looks deep into his questioners eyes and whispers, "I believe one or both of them are Zhentarim! The sneaky one, and his mage friend." The old man leans back on his cell bed obviously drained. "I Threatened to turn em in. They laughed at me and taunted me. I then drew my swords as I feared an attack. The shifty one went to his blades, and the mage shifted against the wall. I was now in fear of them." Erulaan closes his eyes as the color leaves his face. "The last things I recall are these...I cast a defensive spell on myself. A spell only to protect me, as I was outnumbered and in fear for my life. The Elf then attacked me. He hit me 3 or 4 times with his blades. He attacked me outright." Erulaans voice raises just a tad. "I tried to defend myself, but I was overwhelmed when the mage cast some spell on me." Erulaan sighs. "Thats the last thing I recall, prior to waking up here."
The man in the fine clothes puts down his quill, having taken many notes during the statement. "I can tell you this, Erulaan. They killed you. You were dead when the guard found you, and by the grace of your God, you have been ressurected to tell your tale. by my accounting of your side of the story, the magistrate may have to charge those two with murder. I will see to it that you are released if there are no pending charges against you."
With that the man in fine clothes askes the guard to open the cell. Erulaan drifts off to sleep.

The cell door creaks with the echoes of age old rust and a disheveled looking Erulaan quickly sits up to greet the armor clad guard with a simple frown.Erulaan's appearance was that of a wild man , his beard was overgrown, hair unkempt, and the smell of weeks old sour sweat filled the cell and almost gave the gurard reason to vomit.
" Gods man , you smell horrible! You could knock a buzzard of a dung wagon!!" All the while the guard spoke trying to hold his breath in fear of vomiting his lunch." Well , it looks like you are free to go old man.Your case has been reviewed and you have been fined eight-hundred gold for your actions. We took the liberty of taking it from your belongings already,so collect your equipment and whatever else belongs to you and DON'T come back you hear. Oh , and please wash your arse!!"

/////Just want to clarify that Erulaan was transfered to the jail in BG for holding since there isn't one in Beregost....So the lude behavior was from a Fist guard and not a servant of Lathander.
