Many of us don't.... I personally do not want to see it happen. I don't like diluting the RP and have cross racial "buddy buddying" with surfacers.
I think the option to bridge the surface to the UD came from some people saying there is not enough to do or areas to go in the UD. If Beta 9 remedies these concerns, we don't need a surface connection and it would be make more sense that one is not made or is nearly impossible to get too.

Beta 9 will have the bridge from UD to Surface...Have some patience. Seeing how these players are bored to tears on the surface, why do they want a passage? Conflict. Which is what makes RP fun, IMHO

personally i am quite looking forward to the connection.
keep in mind that there will be no spawning of ud races on the surface and vice versa.
that's a big difference from TFR.

Actually, I'm pretty sure the bridge was planned even before the first UD areas were put into the server.

Rest assured that I will find a way to break through the bridge with a low level. hehe! It's a hobby of mine to solo my PC's through areas that they have no business being inside of.

You dont need DM's to draw rp down there.
I would hate to see people playing down there based solely on the number of events down there.
When it was first created there was alot of player driven rp down there that was excellent and that was with even less dm intervention.
If UD activity revolves directly around DM events you dont solve any problem.
DM Event:Ud comes alive for a brief flighting moment Non:Dm event and tumble weeds move through the ud.
Where as if people are trying to get player driven rp going and a dm is in the area running event? Hey! We are already there!

Well one problem is the player driven plots that don't seem to get much light of day. I am sure that there are several UD players who have mentioned or submitted plots of C&D to help bring RP to the next level. I mean, even small things that the DM's do on the surface such as (not exactly) Trials, etc...
Now I'm not saying trials are applicable in the UD, just something small along those lines. It doesn't hurt that DMs are from time to time fostering the authority in the city, to better show us players the staff's direction of the UD especially Sshamath. This stems from the large amount of complaints that the Conclave isn't well represented as an authoritarian force within the city. Using the reasoning that "they are too busy with study" is...which to be frank... Is a lazy excuse for DM's to not do anything in the UD. Which is also the reason why there is faction unbalance and also why no new UD characters associate themselves with the conclave, because there isn't a good enough reason too.
Beta 9 will show us some representation of the conclave's power, possibly on the surface and a bit more with hopefully some good quest chains. However, it is still the DM's responsibility to give the players the overall experience of the setting so we can build of that.

the Charnag Maelthra will be present in-game very soon. They are the physical manifestation of the Conclave in the city. So beyond just being police officers they will be geared towards sparking RP.

I look forward to the surface-UD connection. I think it will make it a lot more exiting and it will give opportunity for some great rp conflicts.. trade caravans and recon/spy missions. The Ud-Surface contrast (and maybe conflict..) is the main reason why i started playing here. It gives a whole lot of more depth to the server..

Ah! But remember you Underdark rulers, "Yes I saw rulers because I don't want to become Drow meat for that matter." "Or a slave." You can not withstand the bright sun!
So if Drows were to come into the surface, lets just remember that the moon should be out yes? Or you would all suffer penalties.

to honest, i dont really wait for that "bridge" to come. When DMs uses drows (PC or NPC) in the surface, its alright, because that happens so, so rarely. When the bridge comes, yellin "OMG, DROW, FLEE!" will come everyday. And at somepoint, one just gets tired of running away, and who sane person WOULD stay there when they meet a drow!
Who knows, might be this wont happen. But i see no reason why drows would do any recon / scout missions to the surface, other than DM run events.
So, in a nutshell, i fear my PC and i OOCly, would grow tired of seeing drows running in the surface.

Well I certainly hope that they make the transition difficult enough so that the drow cannot be on the surface constantly.

It might be nice if when a pc is killed by another pc, the killer had the choice to either send them back to their respective starting tavern, or allow the timer to do it's normal thing.
Probably a complicated bit of scripting, though.
