Why does this work only in selected areas? Works great for advance warning of Lizardfolk and the Goblins north of Beregost, but not at all for Ogres and Wolves ten feet away. What gives?

Ogres are monstrous humanoids. Without the "tracking" feat, you will be unable to detect anything that is not a humanoid or animal. Goblins are considered humanoids for the purposes of charm person, hold person, and tracking as an example, while ogres cannot be the target of such spells. It's possible that if wolves aren't showing up with track that they are flagged as beasts or something else- there seemed to be a lot of errors in the racial types given to certain mobs on the surface last time I played there.

Yes there is a problem with ogres showing up with survival unless you have the track feat, wolves show up even with out it, perhaps you dont have a high enough survival?

Possibly though I would be surprised. Methinks Lizardmen and Goblins would be tougher quarry to track...

Wolves are renowned for speed and stealth thats why you will almost never hear one sneaking into your backyard until you actually see it. Goblins and lizard folk are...shall we say less refined?

I meant it from a level perspective. Wolves are the easiest thing there is on the surface...
