Hi,
Since I'm still pretty new to BG:TSCC, I've noticed that there's no thread or information about the adventurer's worst nightmare: DEATH.
Can someone [DM, Mod] please write a brief overview of the death system in place for BG:TSCC and put it in the Newbie information section.
My character has died only twice, but both of those were for a DM event so I still don't know what happens after you die (except that you go to the Fugue). That is, do you cop XP penalty? If so, how is it calculated. What are the respawn options etc. And can we use the Chat Shout "REZ PLS AT CLOAKWOOD" lol, just kidding on the last one, I know that is certainly not in the spirit of the server (but you might want to mention that too!)
Thanks, and I'm sure the other newbies will thank you also.
Jie.

I'm no Mod but what i've learned is that when you die, your body remains in the "real world" and able to be raised without a penalty. If, however, you were unlucky enough to tick off your cleric friends then your only option is to talk to Myrkul, found within the building at the end of the Fugue plain. The only penalty is a 100XP Per level dock and you can either return to your body or the starting Inn/save point.
so a level 5 character takes a 500 xp dock for death. I think this is great for starting characters as they won't have death to fear as much as a higher level, nor will they be hit as harshly for falling prey to the many denizens of BG.
There is no xp loss or penalty until you talk to Myrkul and agree to be transported back to the world of the living!
Hope that helps!

And also, if a PC dies during a DM event, most times he will be ported back by the DM. There are a few occasions when DMs will let players suffer the penalty after dying in an event due to be unduly reckless or something along those lines.

Actually... yesterday, someone who shall remain nameless, accidentally ported the entire server on top of me while I was buffing in Cloakwood. In the confusion at least one person decided it would be fun to engage in mass PvP and set about attacking people. he didn't last long (was swatted by someone's pet Bear IIRC), but it did raise a question as it was my first encounter with PvP on the server.
What are the penalties for PvP death, if any?
I'm used to the rules on the NWN server I play where there is no XP/Gold loss for PvP death (while there is for normal death), and people still complain about dying in PvP even when they're not actually dead but subdued and will stand up on their own in a few minutes time.

There are no penalties for PvP death unless self-imposed.

Alright, these are all good answers.
Just one more question though... can you lose levels from xp loss?
Eg, you just managed to kill a goblin elite and advance to level 6, then you get smacked down by a sapper. Would the xp loss take you back a level?

I've always wondered how other folks RP death...
With PvE it's a bit easier since there is that visit to the Fugue Plane and either a resurrection or raise from friends or else one barters with Myrkul. It's a miracle to return to the living either way.
With PvP you lie there coughing and sputtering... Are you not dead but incapacitated? What should happen afterwards? Are your characters now "dead" to each other? How do folks RP this?

You cannot lose XP to put you back a level.
PvE deaths are rather straightforward ordeals, with an additional mystery since FR lore states clearly that mortals never remember anything that they did on the Fugue Plane, even if they are brought back to life.
PvP I have no answer about. The best I can say is to work with the other players and come to an agreement.

Speaking from experience, I have usually RP'd with the other character that yes they are dead.. but they can RP that a healer, a Fist, or whoever has come along and either raised them or took them to a temple to raise them. But like Mithari said, the best way is to come to an agreement between players.
