There is a chest in the gnoll area that doesn't have a lvl restriction. Also I'm not sure if it is intended or not but the chest in the crystal frost place don't seem to be giving good loot. All I've gotten is a few gold, some gems, ale's, torches, and thieves tools. Is this intended?

even with the fixes I still am too high to loot everywhere i checked ( only places I havent been is the frost fort the tower and the troll caves) are they even lootable there?
if the only places for me to loot a chest left are "party only areas" I have to say i am very disapointed with the new direction

Let Jlf2n get the fixes over to the server and then give it a try. Maybe we will surprise you.

I thought the new patch was the fix. if not the patch notes should be adjusted to reflect that.
the game tells me I am too high and to try a harder area in red text. that is the case for every area I have been at since patch 4 and i tried again today in 5 still no go.

I thought the new patch was the fix. if not the patch notes should be adjusted to reflect that. You spend to much time thinking about this stuff. It was still broken when 8.5 rolled out, but we will get it fixed. We can adjust this stuff server side any time without rolling out anything to the players like a PWC. We just call it fixes on the fly...

What about the chest loot in the crystal frost, will it be the same or get better? I've looted the chest there a few days in a row and didn't get anything worth over a few hundred gp. I could have been just my luck, are they supposed to give good loot? I was also unable to loot chests in durlags tower as well. I haven't tried the chest in the troll area yet. The character I was using is lvl 22.

My level 18 duergar is too high level for the chests near the giant snakes and basilisks. Considering these monsters could still kill him with their spitting acid or petrification gaze.....

Dont even start on basilisks...my Epic rolled 1 twice against them, and I only fought two basilisks. Go figure...

Just so the developers are aware of the extent of the chest problem (for higher levels):
1. Trollclaw chests (in both the ogre and troll caves) cannot be opened by anyone >= level 20, possibly even lower. I believe these aren't meant to have a level limit.
2. Same story with all the chests in Durlag's Tower. In addition, the Durlag's Tower chests seem to be working on a low-level (or low probability?) loot script. Not sure if that's intentional.
3. Same story with Haunted Mansion chests on levels 1 and 2. I haven't tested level 3.

At the moment, the only place with workable chests for higher levels is the Crystal Frost Palace. I should note that area has a trap bug, however. The traps on chests and floors can spawn and stack (my char was once hit by 6 stacked deadly/epic traps on a chest).

I will take a look at all the loot tables stats again sometime this week though to make sure they are not off.

I was just curious to know, wasn't sure if it was a bug or just bad luck.

Have you considered a script that say, allows a character to loot a chest once per every so often? This solves a few problems:
1: It ensures that a character that gets a chest will always get loot if they can open it. No worries about being just a few minutes behind some other guy. You didn't open that chest in the last (I dunno times here, let's just pick a number) 4 hours, so you get your loot.
2: In a party, especially bigger ones, it quickly becomes very apparent that your money flow is reduced to next to nothing. If each character could loot each chest, then there's no worries about this, and grouping is encouraged as a way to fight stronger monsters so that everyone can enjoy the spoils of better loot.
3: If the aforementioned higher level comes through, the low level isn't losing out on gear because the higher level can't solo whatever it is he 'should' be fighting for his loot.

Yes.. but at least for me, I'd prefer we not have to do something like this. I'd rather see us put more area's in to support the current player population as opposed to just clamping down on things. I'll try to look at the party thing. Thats kind of a double edged sword. It's very open to abuse if a few friends get together and go on chest hunts. But I get the point.

Yep, I'll be the first to admit there's issues with my approach. IT's not perfetct, but I took this thread as a place to toss ideas, so I did so. My current issue with the container based system is that frequently, you will come upon chests that due to hasty players, lag, action queueing issues, whatever, are permanently locked in the "open" status. This results in a chest that will no longer spawn loot for anyone until a server reset. I've gone into dungeons where the entire dungeon is nothing but these bugged open chests. Suffice it to sya, our party was very frustrated.
