I was logged on a few evenings ago (U.S. Central time) just fine. Installed the latest PWC file yesterday and tried to log on just now. Once I select a PC I get the "Could not load the Module. Missing required HAK file." message box. According to the site the .hak files haven't changed and I even dl'd the hak.rar file from filefront again. I even went as far at try to log on with a few of my PC's and to connect from both the Direct Connect and the normal Gamespy server login methods. Each and every time I get the missing .hak file message. In case it matters I'm running Linux instead of Windows but I'm not sure why that would all of a sudden matter. Thoughts or suggestions?
Thanks

You still have the 4 BG HAKs right? None of them were accidently erased...

You still have the 4 BG HAKs right? None of them were accidently erased... That's correct, they are: - BG_builder_V1.hak
- BG_item_V2.hak
- BG_misc_V2.hak
- BG_tools_v11.hak
EDIT: Just tried again thinking it might have been a timing thing and still getting the missing hak error message. I would also like to note that I have even tried rebooting to see if that would help.

I don't have any good idea's at the moment for why your having a problem.
All I can think of is maybe the HAKs are not in the /hak directory, but if it was working for you before, it should be working now.

if you unpacked the file in the Hak folder, you will create a folder named Hak, inside the other Hak folder, take them out of it, and place it in the first Hak folder... thats what happened to me, when i unpacked the Hak file

I don't have any good idea's at the moment for why your having a problem. All I can think of is maybe the HAKs are not in the /hak directory, but if it was working for you before, it should be working now. The files are most assuredly in the hak folder. I've even tried dl'ing the hak.rar file one more time but that still didn't work. I've thought about this and I believe the only thing that's changed on my system since I could log in, last Wednesday or Thursday, is updating to the 8_5 PWC file. I don't think I got any updates this weekend either. So if the PWC file was the issue I'd think I'd get the error about not being able to load the module instead of the missing hak error I'm getting. I'm doubtful it's a connection problem since I can connect to the server and even get to where I'm able to pick form my list of created PC's. At this point I'm hoping it can be explained by something on the server that changed related to the way it checks for the correct .hak files, but if you have suggestions I'll give them a try. if you unpacked the file in the Hak folder, you will create a folder named Hak, inside the other Hak folder, take them out of it, and place it in the first Hak folder... thats what happened to me, when i unpacked the Hak file Yep and I've tried it with the .hak files both in and out of the "hak" folder unpacking creates.

Correct path: My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\hak Incorrect path: My Documents\Neverwinter Nights 2\hak\hak Yeah, I've actually had a working install for roughly the last 10 days in March. It only broke sometime between Wednesday last week and this last Sunday. I only attempted the "Incorrect" way you list to see if it would work that way since the "Correct way" wasn't working anymore. @dev luna - I had an idea I wanted to run by you: Can anything be determined by the fact that I'm not being told what .hak file is missing? I mean if I was missing the file "foo.hak" wouldn't the error message say "Missing file foo.hak"? I'll try taking one or more of the .hak files out of the folder and see what error it gives me later this evening. Anyway just a thought I had in the hopes it could give a clue to the problem. Thanks

UPDATE:
Just before 8pm local time (US Central) I tried logging on with 1, 2 and all .hak files removed from my /hak directory. In each case I got the same generic "Missing hak file" error message, no mention of which .hak files it was that I was missing. So I dl'd the hak.rar file one more time, and dl'd the .pwc file from the FileFront link provide elsewhere by DEV luna. It seemed like there were numerous Server crashes between 8pm and 8:30pm so after a few false starts I waited for a while to ensure the server seemed stable. Around 8:30pm I tried to log in with all .hak files in place and was in fact able to log in.
I don't know if there were some changes made today or if it was my 4th dl of the .hak files and 3rd dl of the new .pwc that was the charm but for whatever reason I seem to be able to log in now.
As I type this (8:39pm local) I wanted to try one more time at log to be sure it wasn't a fluke and I see the server seems to have crashed again and has a Ping of 2403... Ah there we go, in a moment of stability I was able to log in again, this time with the 3rd version of the .hak files.
I hope this will somehow help and if there's anything specific you want to ask or want me to test, just let me know.
Thanks.
EDIT: I'll give it a few days and if there's no more problems I'll remove the "(maybe)" from the Solved part of the thread title.
