why are stone giants now crit immune?
crits are one of the only bastions of hope for lowly fighter types if you start taking that away to make things harder on other players what do they have left?
this is one of the reasons i keep talking about balance between classes because inevitably the mobs get adjusted up to make the game more of a challenge for the players playing the more powerful classes (which there will always be more of) making it even harder and less fun to play a non optimized build.

Agreed, though I think this kind of thing can also be applied to creatures that are disarm-proof or un-knockdownable via obcenely high strength as well. These kind of abilities are where the feat-rich fighters can climb back out of the mirk.
There are other specialties they could be given to mobs to make them unique and more difficult for specific classes without trumping fighters and rogues, like immunity to electricity, sonic... or you could give them resistance to all but alchemical silver/ cold iron, then make only common fighter weapons like falchions, scythes, longswords etc. that are "fighter only" the only weapons available with these metals.
Ultimately, I always wished there was a feat available to fighters in place of Devastating Critical where it worked like rogue's epic precision: you still get half of your critical damage vs. critical immune but... alas.

Disarming enemies wouldn't be so bad if they were scripted to pick up their weapons like in Battle of the Builds. I'd like to see that actually.

Went to Stone Giants.
Was a bit disappointed. They hit for like 8 damage? 10? That's.. um... well, Trolls before them are 4ish CR less and do 15-25 a swing. I was a bit disappointed. You also don't need acid to kill them.
Also: If you're going for a Stone Giant look, might I suggest you use scaled up Earth Genasi? And if you're going to keep them fist fighters, my guess is they're still swinging 1d3 fists with high STR. You may want to look into that. Right now they're a bit wiry compared to the stuff that level.

@ Ovarf: Agree with you on Fighters. I mentioned that in Josh's thread about balancing fighters. Immunity to crits really only hurts melee types. They should be immune to some spells rather than crits-- i.e. Freedom of movement, immunity to electricity. www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/giant.htm@ Tormaksaber: 8-10 Damage? Do you have DR? Seen them hit for much more than that and more than two you get knocked down way often. As for a "stone giant look," I find them to be very close to that in the monster manual. They are supposed to be humanoids not elementals: The appearance of giants varies according to the type of giant (see true giants below) but they are generally humanoid in appearance, just much larger... Giants were inhabiting Abeir-Toril before any of the other humanoid or demihuman races. The first of their kind and the source of the entire species were the sons of Annam All-Father and his wife Othea, who settled on the planet to form a kingdom known as Ostoria. Each of his sons led to a different type of giant. forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/GiantsPerhaps you were thinking of a Craa'Ghoran Giant? I just wish the giants could toss boulders and that the Stone had Greatclubs rather than look like big monks. Mix in some Elder Giants and Dire Bears would really up the immersion and challenge!

I do have DR. That 8=10 damage was *before* my DR kicked in. After it, I was taking 3's. 4's. 5's. You could talk to Arivain or Te'alis Avondovail if you wanted corroboration, they were both with me, and all of us were taking pitiful amounts of damage. They knock you down, sure, but knockdown is far less dangerous in NWN2 since the attempt itself does no damage and they tend to spam it. You're on your back but taking no damage. I agree on giving them weapons but suggest a weapon like a mace, or a morningstar, or a warmace, for creature variety. The appearance was just a suggestion, the Earth Genasi models look quite cool and very stoney, so I thought it migh tlook better than the current look which looks a lot like a very tall duergar.

The Stone Giants are supposed to be swinging an ironwood club. I'll look into what's going on. For some reason, the Stone Giants don't behave well.
I'll add a non-weapon attack to them as well.

That would certainly make a difference.
