No, no. I'm NOT asking the Powers-that-Be to do more work. I'm wanting to know if I might VOLUNTEER (if such a service was deemed useful) and if it would be "smiled upon" by the PTB's.
I have several nights a week where I have access to the internet but not the game. And an absent boss.
We players don't really want the PTB's to be bugged by PM's or requests or whatnot. We want you building areas, debugging code, and creating adventures for us to play in. ;D
I'm wondering if it would be good for me to set up a spreadsheet and accept emails from players looking for groups and DM's.
Info requested would be character name, contact email, times playing, character level, RP desired (none, PG, PG-13, R, X - even though I think there are probably other PW's more suited for that last one), alignment played and willing to play with, etc.
The only thing I would do would send an email with those same stats to others sharing the same playing-time windows. Those who choose to hookup can with those whose tastes match their own. It would beat sending "wanna hook up" tells to people at random and finding your 8th lvl evil priest hooking up with a 1st lvl Paladin (not that it couldn't be fun).
A thread would be started in the Elfsong discussion thread announcing adventurers sought and groups formed. A "Blazidon One-Eye" type of thing.
If DM's wanted to get involved, so much the better. Only one message sent saying "I'm available at these times for such-and-so types of campaigns" would be sent out to all the players at once.
Okay ... it would'nt cut out ALL the buggin', but it should cut it down some.
I'm a newbie, myself. I find I spend too much typing-time just trying to feel out the other player, trying to figure out if they WOULD want to adventure with me beyond just chatting a bit over a drink at the Elfsong.
Heck, all of the above might not even be needed. Maybe it will work out if people just post for themselves on this thread. Allow me to start as an example:
Seeking to join startup group - no or low experience.
Character: To be built, NG 1st lvl Ranger
Availability: (US-EST) Either 9AM-1PM or 5PM-9PM Thur-Mon; Open availability on Tue-Wed
Compatible alignments: Any non-homicidal (good deeds, non banditry)
Playstyle: Mixed (seeks 70/30 Action/Roleplay)
Rating: Any up to R is fine. Will play in keeping with consensus.
{If anyone should see Maurice, he's 3rd lvl CE open to any align, same hours, 30/70, and is PG-13 to R (innuendo and "Meet the Spartans" levels)}
