I was really interested in playing here until I started asking some questions. I still might play here, but that is looking less likely since my posts keep getting deleted by board admins that seem like to throw their power around. Everyone knows that great campaigns are made by great game masters. And everyone knows that great game masters (mods) don't go throwing their power around everytime someone asks a question they don't like.
I played SoH, one of the 2 other highly popular RP mods. They had many rules and feat / spell, etc....changes due to "balance" and claimed to be a low-mid magic environment. I thought that was cool. After wasting 40+ hours there playing 2 chars. I find #1. A good amount of cheating. #2 certain players allowed broken abilities, #3 high power items exist. You can guess whose PC's have all these abilities. And the most gayest thing I've ever seen. Certain Rogues abilities were improved. So a SKILL based class will rape a warrior class. LOL. But you know, it's all about balancing
So as you can see, I'm highly skeptical about "balancing". Maybe admins here have that in their best interest. But I have questions since I've seen admin's argue both ways here contradicting each other. Some say, NwN2 wasn't made for PvP and balancing isn't possible. Which is a very true statement. Then I see statments about certain things need balancing, which directly contradicts.
Things I can agree with. Timmy's love RDD's. RDD's have no place on RP servers.
Other things make me scratch my head. Nerfing clerics? They are better in 3.5 PnP since players have less HP on average, most people don't even want to play clerics. Spelled up warriors will take down clerics. Non-spelled up warriors wont..... Unless the Cleric runs low on spells .
Wizards are nerfed already, thanks to double (max) hp's. All their damaging spells effectively do 50% damage. Spell trigger, permanence, time stop, spell shield, etc. Stuff that was in the original baldurs gate, is not in Nwn2. The toughest battles in Baldurs gate shadows of Amn involved wizards or liches. I'm not commenting that I think wizards should be more powerful, just in response to someone else saying they are too powerful. LOL. A low level wizard, one that runs out of spells, against enemies with VERY VERY high spell resistance, and in anti-magic areas are useless.
Level restrictions are not necessary and take away from RP experienc. As long as you relevel feats like HiPS, divine grace, when clerics get their domain feats, and changes such as.... changing the monk AC bonus to act like a duelist (AC = wis mod or monk level, whatever is less). Then you don't need things like.....level 3 by 20, which makes little sense RP wise. If one wants to take training in a certain field, then they can. Like real life.
As for the direction of Baldur's Gate. I hope that the creators here are trying to authentically re-create the spirit of Baldur's Gate and BG Shadows of Amn instead of infuse their own agenda of "they think" classes should be or shouldn't be. And really, they owe it to the creators of Baldur's gate to do so. You guys are using their (TM) name. You could re-create the world of Baldur's Gate with World of Warcraft chars, but it would not be Baldur's Gate because WoW rules takes away from the DnD experience.
