As I joined the Fist and was escorted by Lt. Crownsilver on my first patrol to Beregost, a young lady reported that just at the edge of town, was quite a commotion. The Lt. and I went to the location of the troubles to find the Captain of the Lathander Guard standing amidst the body of a middle aged man, who now lie dead by the sword of the guard.
The Captain and his men caught this theif and one other in the act of grave robbing, as they tried to run, one of them by the name Camborrl escaped into the Hedge Estate; the other was slain by the Captain and his men.
Upon our arrival we found that one of two graves at this site had been in fact dug up, and the body molested for the valuables. Those valuables were found on both the corpse of the grave robber and the other in the possession of Camborrl. After looking over the grave and now open coffin of still yet to be identified man; the Lt. and I headed to the hedge to see if we could apprehend the escaped robber. As we reached the estate a Red Wizard approached us, yet invisible. His involvement in this is still to be determined, yet I am sure he is somehow involved.
As we questioned this Wizard, a chicken was tossed from the door of the Wizard Thalander's estate, this chicken was no ordinary chicken as he begged the Lt and I for help, explaining a Wizard had changed him to this chicken. As we questioned him, it was deicided that it be best served to see the Wizard of the estate to see why he had been changed and if he could be changed back.
The wizard indeed changed him back, allowing us to recover a ring that matched an amulet found on the corpse of the fallen robber. The symbol has still no been identified, but the Priest of Mornignlord is looking into its history.
The Lt. and I returned to the grave site to further investigate; when Camborrl told us he had been paid by the fallen robber to loot the bodies of both graves and carry the coffin and the remains to another location. By unfortunate chains of events we had to exsume the other coffin to search for more clues as to who this couple that were moved to this location after their deaths were, and why their corpses were to be moved once again.
At this time the Lathander Guard and the Priest of Lathander have moved the graves to a more secure resting spot, and my investigation of this crime is still ongoing, my hopes that either the Scholars of Candlekeep or the Priest of the Morninglord will discover some history of the couple or the matching amulets and rings found on both bodies, this may explain why someone wanted these bodies dug up, and what evil they meant to do with them.
More reports will follow as we learn more about this crime.
