I know it's bugged as well as stealth unless you have hips.
But I'm a bit confused here. I've encountered two types of folks, one's who ignore you on inspect, and the others that assume they've spotted you with no rolls through dmfi (I'm wearing plate fyi). Despite my horrible armor check penalty I could roll a 20. Like to point out here that npcs never spot me when the ability is activated.
It's obvious that there's limitations of the nwn2 engine, but technically I could run around with my priest with true seeing and blindsight and start spotting auras of sneaky folks. Wouldn't that blow?
Opinions? Flamings?

I tend to ignore the people if they are just passing by, but if they are standing there watching while invisible, I'd do a spot/listen check. Sometimes it's hard to see if the person is transparent at first glance, however, and if that's the case, I might treat them as visible (accidentally, of course). All they need to say is "invis" and I'll know.

Man its hard with the current bug..
I dont make it a habit of 'examining' everyone I come across, so its hard to know that someone is invisible and not just hiding or what have you when you see them IG. The ones that assume they've spotted you are probably (hopefully) doing so because they think you are hidden and not invisible.
Until the bug is fixed, the whole "///im in invis" routine is probably going to be standard fare. I know it stinks, I have a character that uses invis too, but its pretty hard not to run into that.

I think you cant use spot / listen to see someone invisible, you need blindsight or true seeing or you could always track them with survival but you will not really know where they are. I wish we find a hak for invisibility and hiding to make peoples really invisible like hips does. Till then the ooc is the only way to go

Thanks for replies. I was never really into version 3.0+ I know that you could hear noisy invisible creatures, but was under the impression that the only counter of actually spotting them was through true seeing in ad&d.

yes, afaik you cannot spot an invisible person without trueseeing. however hearing someone clanking about in plate mail when no-one is visibly about would be quite easy (although duergar do get +4 to MS so if you invested a lot of points in MS and your observer has crap listen they may still not hear you).
i also accidentaly see invisible people sometimes due to bugsidian, it's hard to tell your invisible in certain lighting conditions.
incidentally there are NO magical means to detect someone who is hiding via skill. Trueseeing and the like does not work for that but only for piercing illusions and magical disguises and the like (i.e. invisibility/ shapechange).

Its very sad that this bug has lasted this long. I mean the answer is staring them in the face. HiPs works, would it be so hard for them to get one of their programmers to just modify HiPs to make it the invis spell?

I agree, and Obsidian has recently stated that multi player Invis is in the works of being fixed. Within next couple patches... I hope so anyway. I noticed mention above that stealth is bugged? It is not. All things with stealth have been ironed out.
If you see just a black outline... that means you 'hear' them. If you see them, that means you obviously 'spot' them.
And when using invisibility vs NPCs/creatures they still get an active listen check vs you. This can be disabled through Tony K's AI update on the vault. So they only listen for those in line of sight etc.

And without the silence spell, aye, a full plate invis dwarf sure makes alot of noise! that anyone could beat with a crappy listen check...

I think the invis spell should have a set DC to be spotted, like DC 30 to beat with a spot check. As far as the basic rules go, you can never directly Spot an invisible creature - it IS completely invisible. What you can do, however, is Spot the marks they leave on the world around, such as shallow footprints, dislocated branches/dust/whatever, which is made at a DC of their Hide roll + 20 (though +30 fits better with the tables and descriptions; this is an inconsistency in the rules). Move Silently does, indeed, work just as normal - though keep in mind it might be easier to ration away such things when you don't actually see anything.
