I'm level 18 Wizard and I accidently trodded into the room with the gauth, they stoned/paralized me and then killed with after about 5 seconds. Do I get no SR saves against them? I tried using spell mantle to some success but I think the Gauth fire their eye rays all at once so after like 2 rounds it collapses. They also seem to have ridiculously long range, 400+ feet.
There's also the matter of the anti magic ray, as they can I think negate all of my protections, in PnP when the Anti Magic cone is on they cant fire their death rays into that cone so as long as your int hat area your safe, essentilly theyre are numerous strategies in PnP but not sure thats good in NWN2.
It also doesnt help that I have no idea when im resisting spell they send at more or how many spells spell mantle can absorb remaining.
They also seemt o be able to see through invisibility.
Might be easier to grind dragons.

You're talking about the ones in the Cloakwood mines, right? I've always wanted to snag that last ore down there on the 3rd level, but those Beholders are impossible for anyone by themselves it seems. The only way is to have a party with you. A BIG party. ;D

Ah... well, the ones in the mines are tough too =]
But I think it's good that they are that way in the mines at least... makes a neat place for characters to RP being afraid of going to.

You can solo. Cast ethereal then wail of the banshee or finger of death. If you have shadow dancer lvl, easier to kill them.

In pnp, its a free action for them to shut their eyes to turn off their anti magic cone.
Plus, at least with pnp standards beholders have a CR of 16, so a levle 18 wizard should have a very difficult time killing them BY HIMSELF.
Now if you were a level 28 wizard haveing issues killing one beholder that might be differnt.

PK? I agree they are pretty difficult to defeat I had to run away when I faced them. My spells fizzled on them and I couldn't take it down quick enough, luckily I was able to get away alive.

I wonder if the spell is so effective due to Beholders' paranoia.
Paranoia caused by beholder mind being divided into two separate entities, both entities usually witholding information from the other.
Well, I wonder if Nebbie could use this information to get a Beholder pet. OH yessh.... ^_^

it may be a free action but its standard to prepare a spell as a readied action witht he trigger "when the beholder closes its eyes"
etherallness... I knew I should have taken that spell.

We want tougher areas, we want easier areas, we want it to be like PNP, we are playing a game that isnt like PNP...

and your problem is? My post was "I got my ass kicked by something that says "effortless" how can I in NWN2 kill these things easily using PnP as an example of the numerous strategies involved that I don't have access to.
Either be constructive or don't post.

Also should be noted that the people wanting tougher areas arent the people wanting easier areas, they are neither mutually exclusive, the people wanting easier areas are the level 1's in UD who have difficulty killing Kobolds and Goblins, usually Deep Gnomes who cant group with Drow due to RP reasons. The people wanting tougher areas are the near epics or post epics who can't grind further either because theyre so high level that even frost giants dont give meaningufl xp or they're like me who are stuck in the UD with no way out and nothing to grind for XP to catch up to the numerous lvl 20+'s on the surface who wont hesitant on the next meeting to kill us. Which is part of the problem that Gauth and Beholders do not give meaningul xp and the tactics so far that I know of make grinding them impossible unless being a Horn devil or Nightmare is somehow immune to its rays.

LOL.
Dude, incessant bitching does NOT equal constructive posting.
My point is you have one post saying you are bored, and the next saying you want to know how to 'kill these things easily'.
There is a bit of a disconnect there.
