Dictated with a smile and wink to the Flaming Fist desk clerk by a exotic and pretty human bard on a lazy afternoon...
To the Officers of the Flaming Fist and the Duke's Council,
My name is Ming, traveling sword-dancer and poet of Shou-Lung, and adventurer in these lands. I would like to report a case of manslaughter in self-defense that took place in the Hilltop Ruins earlier today.
Due to the brutal and ruthless natures of the recent murders and highway robberies that have taken place in and out of our fair city, a great many of we loyal adventurers have taken to traveling in companies for security and protection of both our livelihoods and health, and those of the helpless farmsfolk and merchants of Baldur's Gate. On such an outing today, my traveling companion "Stumpy" (Can't remember the whole dwarven name, apologies...) and myself were exploring the Hilltop Ruins looking for anything suspicious, following various and assorted rumors of possible lairs for a gang of murdering brigands.
Inside, we discovered the motley assortment of undead foes, but also a skittish and suspicious acting individual who did not return our hail of greetings nor did he name himself openly upon our asking. I first discovered his presence down a hallway from our position, when he cast a protection spell, which I recognized due to my unerring and keen ears. Unable to see his holy symbol, I grew more suspicious, for it was not unlikely he was the servant of an evil power. Furthermore, amongst the many reports of eyewitnesses, some matched the description of a human male spellcaster like himself in the company of the brigands. We continued to speak with the man, and insisted he return with us to Baldur's Gate to have his identity confirmed and find someone willing to vouch for him. He agreed after some lengthy evasiveness, and we began to escort him out of the ruins.
On route, a pack of undead (possibly drawn under the command of the suspected evil priest) attacked our company, and in the midst of the fray the suspicious individual lashed out at me, drawing deep into my shoulder. I withdrew from his vicious and unprovoked attack, and my companion Stumpy hearing my cry of "Treachery!" immediately leaped to my defense, and smote the backstabber to the ground.
Being respectful and loyal folk to the Dukes, we felt this report needed to be given to the Flaming Fist and Duke's Council with the understanding that the tensions of your people are running high, and we have faith and trust that *something* will be done by the Lords and officers to capture and execute the murdering filth who are waylaying our innocent brethren.
With greatest respect and admiration,
Ming, Poet of Shou-Lung.
