A letter to the Duke bearing the Seal of Lathander

Dear Duke Eltan,

This letter is to inform you that the half-drow Malkar Fe'lis and the drow Mithari DeMakiir have been recognized as citizens of Beregost. This information will be made public and announced on the streets of Beregost.

The rest of this information will not be made public.

Malkar and another were found near the temple bound and gagged. They were taken in for questioning and Malkar asked to leave immediately as he was bound by oath to you not to set foot in either Baldur's Gate or Beregost.

Lathander was with us this day and His divine Will empowered me with the ability to test his virtue. Malkar was engulfed in the Flames of the Morninglord, and would have been consumed into oblivion had he held evil intent in his heart.

He stood with confidence basking in the light of the Morninglord.
With this sign, I offered Malkar sanctuary in the Temple and a home in Beregost.

The other with Malkar was also found to be of good intent, but had pressing business and left the temple.

Not long after, a drow named Mithari DeMakiir arrived with a group that was helping a wagoneer at our temple. Mithari stayed on and I could sense a taint of evil about her, demonic in nature.

I advised her that she should leave as when the presence of Lathander is strong, those with evil intent are at great risk within the temple walls.

Malkar seemed to have faith in her, and the more they spoke, the more it was obvious that she was fighting off this evil taint. Through Lathander, I offered her rebirth within the Light of the Morninglord and she accepted. The evil was purged from her soul, and she was born anew.

Mithari is now an acolyte of our temple.


I would not normally bother you with the doings of our Temple, but due to the nature and racial heritage of these two, I felt it important to pass on this additional information.

I have cautioned them that their presence will not always be well received, but within the walls of Beregost, they will find sanctuary.

I have also warned them that to stray from the Light of Lathander is to invite His Wrath.

Eltan reviews the letter while sitting at his desk. His face is expressionless, revealing nothing of his inner thoughts to those around him. He reaches across the desk for a his writing tablet and begins to pen a letter back.

Dawnlord Cassimar,

I have received your note regarding the drow and half-drow that you have admitted to the town of Beregost. Though I trust your judgement on this matter, the Flaming Fist will need to observe these two further before coming to a final decision. The city of Baldur's Gate is still to be off limits to them for the time being. I will, however, inform my soldiers that the two drow are to be free so long as they remain in Beregost.

The Duke hesitates a moment as if he wants to add something more, then sets aside the quill and seals the letter. As it is taken away by an aide, he thinks to himself.

Drow being accepted in Beregost - and by the temple, no less! Considering we have reports of a murderer wearing the the symbol of Lathander on the loose, I wonder...

He shakes his head and resumes his work.

A letter to Duke Eltan and the Temple of Lathander.


I, and the rest of the men under my command submit to thee, this letter further showing the two named individuals in a positive light. Malker, was banned from the city on my authority, backed with approval from the rest of the Dukes council. Both individuals have shown themselves to be of sound mind, and good nature as well as compassion and stern judgement. They have respected our wishs, and indeed have helped us numerous times in our various operations in the field.

It is with a sure thought, backed by the Lathanderian Ritual that these two individuals should be given the right of passage within the cities and villages and I suggest that, for their own safety they not do so with out an escort. I know the flaming fist will draw some ire from the locals in supporting these two former ne'er do wells, but I stand in firm support of these two reborn individuals.
