One of the most frustrating things about playing here is that if either you or the server crashes, you not only start back where you last saved, but also the xp after that as well.
All of the servers I have played on had a character save on logout, which also seemed to function for crashes as well. That is, if you crashed, you start back where you crashed, with what you crashed with.
Is there any reason this is not implemented here?

Aksi, it occurs to me that since you also start back in the same spot you saved when you crashed, that I have no clue how this servers system works either....stupid devious designers....:0

This is interesting. As far as I know, as long as the server itself doesn't crash, the PC progression should be saved.
I suppose it's possible that they have a setxp to last saved amount on the pc loaded event but that would be.....well, I don't know what to think of something like that.

Oh, I could find out how exactly its done. A friend of mine was a head DM for a server that had that on it. Its more of a matter of, do they intend to change this current setting, or are they leaving it as it is?

It's not a matter of 'how'. The scripting itself is trivial, it's a matter of why?

Ah, good then. The why of it.
Crashing happens far more often on this server than normal. Compounded with there being a lack of a save on logout, or on crash, that means loss of xp is similarly compounded.
In addition, NWN2 still suffers from crashes due to driver failure, on NVIDIA cards, that would also result in the loss of both progress and xp.
There is nothing to lose by implementing it, as many servers do it without loss of performance. It is merely like adding a few more saves happening while the server is running. Also, to counterbalance, saves before transition would be reduced.

I agree. It would be realy cool if the game could auto save on log out. It is really annoying when I crash when I've been grinding for a while and I don't like haveing to consistantly save unless I have to. There are time I crash and loose a few thousand xp when I've been hunting skellys and frosties. It's hard enough trying to gain xp at high levels on your own and even harder to get a good high level party together. I've been trying to level my character for a while and these xp losses are a major set back for me. I know the game used to auto save every few minutes so I know it can be implemented again. I would imagine the question would be if the game devolpers know how and would implemente an auto save on logout.

The autosave isnt quite what I meant. Im out on a limb here with my knowledge of the mechanics of this, but it basically saved the last data before you crashed, assuming it wasnt a server crash.
From what I gather, that would prevent xp loss on cleint crashes and on transition crashes.

It occurs to me the reason, if this is intentional, is to prevent the log-out-to-prevent-death exploit. By forcing you to get to a safe "rest" spot ou can't log out while actively engaging.

Regardless of the intent of leaving out the save before death, until something is done to address saves, the only thing you can do is save often. Don't forget to use the PC tools. It may not save your location, but it does save your XP. I do this OFTEN and I cannot remember the last time I lost any substantial amount of XP.

Its more locations that Im losing, as I run on my stubby little legs around a good bit. And damn is it annoying to have to zone again 3 more times on the off chance you forget.

Regardless of the save function, I had just done so, the server crashed and I lost 5 grand!! It's the first time it's happened to me though I'm a little PO'd because that's a few hours wasted. More grind I guess.

Yep. This happened to me fairly often when we were on an older and very unstable server.
Try to enjoy your game time here so it won't seem like every point of xp lost equals time wasted. Sometimes it helps to just take a break from the grinding and do some exploring, RP or some such activity.

I'm not sure if this is the place to post this or not but i was playing dragonus earlier when my character locked, I could see the enemies near by move but I couldn't. I thought it was weird but figured it could be lag so I wait a couple of minutes and still couldn't move. I decided to log out and log back in hoping it would fix the issue. When I logged back in I was in the fugu planes and the message box said I had lost 2810 xp. When i came back from the dead in the tavern I say another message stating that I had lost another 2740 xp. This isn't the first time that this has happened to me, the last time it did I had crashed when transitioning to the room that myrkul is in. Is this an actual bug or is this somehthing thats standard and if so, why did I lose xp twice and not just once.

As advised, save often, very often.
