I am not familiar with the toolset or world-building in any sense, but was wondering if it was possible to set up 'factions' for different mobs that would cause them to fight one another, etc.
I played a lot of oblivion, and one of the things I thought was cool was the ability to roam the world and see mobs fighting one another on occasion.
For example, a few spawn points in the goblins that would every now and then spawn orcs with hostility to goblins, or Giants, or what have you.
I think it would add a lot of life to the server to see random monster v monster fights taking place in the different regions. Would it lag the server down?
Even varied spawns that don't fight one another would be a good thing I think. If I understand what I've heard in the past, mobs can be releveled so it wouldn't be unbalancing, right?

you can set any monster to any faction you want. there's 4(i think) default factions, and you can make a few more. you can also change how each faction reacts to another one. so yes, you can set them so that they fight each other, even if they both appear hostile to you. however, there's a great many more factions that would really exist than the limited number of factions that you can make in game.

I think something along these lines would be very cool, if it's possible.
A few spawns of Duergar or Drow in the Illefarn ruins would be cool too.. it would look like the underdark races were attempting to come up.
I dunno, something to think about I guess?

You can script as many factions as you want within the Hostile Faction. You can also do this to have a reputation system where some mobs wont attack you but will attack others, and some will just attack you on sight depending on your deeds. -Ice

Very cool. Are there any drawbacks to doing this? Like I said upthread, I think it would breathe a lot of life into some of the areas.
Another application of factions that would be kinda cool would be to have faerie creatures around a nature guilds grove (that are set not to attack that guild) or a group of goblins/orcs around an evil guild hall.
Would having raging monster on monster battles (ok small skirmishes) bog down the server?

This would actually create a lot of cool things... Necromancers(clerics/palemasters) or those with evil deitys would not be attacked by the undead and the like and so on Giving shelter for the bad guys

We need to develop bad guys by giving them a home. having said that, they'll probably get bad prices at merchants (i was gonna say they the guards would attack on site but that requires separate faction merchants)
