I seem to CTD (crash to desktop) a lot more often on this PW than most others, and I've noticed it always happens during a transition/load from one area to another. For example, I seem to crash a lot when returning from the Fugue Plane, when leaving the Elfsong Tavern, and when moving from BG through the east gate to the farm lands. Is this normal? I can't seem to play for more than half an hour without crashing (and I rarely crash during single player, or on PW's like Dex).
Also, when these crashes happen, I always get that "invalid location error" but I'm sure that is a result from the crash and not an additional issue.
Edit: It just happened again transitioning from the area with the wolves along the tradeway to the farmlands. The loading screen froze with the load bar full and said something along the lines of "Completed phase 1 of loading area updates", and then a few moments later it crashed to desktop.
Edit 2: And as soon as I loaded up the game it happened again... this time I did not even get out of the Elfsong Tavern. This is getting exceedingly annoying. This has never happened this frequently on any other PW or online module I've ever played on, and I can go through the entire single-player campaign witout ever crashing once.

I've read in multiple places that turning down your graphics help.

They are all on the lowest possible settings.

Sadly I have this problem as well....I've tried for over an hour to log on and log out of the Elfsong tavern, with consistent crashes, either loading into the module or trying to leave the tavern into Baldur's Gate. Not just you...

I'm new to this PW, and this is my first PW that I've ever played in. Firstly, let me say thanks for making this world so accurate to BG1 and BG2, it really brings back some nice memories, but the world feels custom still. I'm having major problems with transitions though, and also with dying. It seems that I'll get through an area or two before crashing during a transition, and if I die, I always get an error message about my corpse not generating properly (invalid location or somesuch). I'm going to try turning my graphics to minimum, but I figured I would chime in and say that I'm having problems too.

A new thread has been made to address the transition crashing issue: theswordcoast.proboards89.com/index.cgi?board=gettingstarted&action=display&thread=1367It has helped me immensely. Although, I still experience crashes that are isolated to this PW that I don't experience on other servers or in single player. As for the invalid corpse location bug, it is a known issue and is a symptom of corpse spawn being broken (independent of the crashing issue). Nothing we can do at the moment but wait for the devs to fix it, unfortunately.

It seems that I experience the majority of my transition crashes when I am entering a very "busy" exterior area. Josh and I have been making some good progress on toning down the aspects of certain maps that could be contributing to this.
Given the nature of this issue - the fact that this happens on every NWN2 server from time to time - in my opinion, it is not the sort of thing that needs to be added to our master bug list.
Pretty much the best that we can do on our end is make sure that our On_Enter and On_Exit scripts are functioning well, and not creating undue stress on the player - which we have. We can also seek to regulate the number of sounds, lights, animations and heartbeat activity that are in our maps - which is an ongoing process that we are being more proactive than ever about.
If my hunch is right, it is going to take some pretty vigilant process monitoring and data comparison to figure out what the real transition crash culprit is for NWN2. Once the point of failure can be isolated on a process level - the closer we will all be to a fix.

I've done all the steps in accordance with the guide on the wiki link listed in this forum discussion. I keep getting transition crashes. I'm not talking about the occasional crash once every 20 transitions. I'm talking about anywhere from 1-20 crashes on every transition. I can't figure out what's wrong. It's not my computer either because I've tried it on two different computers and I have the same problem with both.
I'm just running a clean version of windows without any of that bullcrap extra software that starts up with the computer. It doesn't make any sense!

Your location and computer power will have some effect on crashing. Unfortunately though, when there are 50+ players online, crashes are unavoidable. I'm fortunate enough to be fairly close to the server location so I usually don't have too many problems once I get out of the city even on the laggy days.

The PW is very unplayable for me for the same reasons, on a C2Q Q6600/8800 GT/4Gb Ram, under Vista 64, XP 32 & 64, and I'm the closest to the machine (5 miles). However, it hardly crashes for me when I'm running the game in Linux.

I still can't believe this crash stuff. I've got two rigs. One is a HP laptop that far exceeds the minimum requirements for the game. My desktop is only six months old and has a quad core processor and NVIDIA 9800GTX 512mb video card. Both computers have recently had system restores.
I noticed the problem occurs only during transitions or when I'm logging on. The load bar seems to get stuck at the same specific spot and only after the 5th,10th or even 20th try will I be able to transition or log on.
I'm really starting to think my character is bugged. I also have a bug where sometimes I'll take damage in the mystra room after a server reset and I end up logging on in the fugue plane. Luckily DM's have been gracious enough to port me out but sometimes they aren't around. The problems don't end there either. None of my quests reset. They are all stuck as being completed, and have been for weeks now. This includes Maltz, Malcolm and Matty and Radger quests.
Maybe a rebuild could fix my problem? That would suck though considering I'm a wizard and I collected many scrolls from other players and merchants. I'm talking $$$$$$$.

By any chance is your PC a spellcaster with lots of metamagic spells in the hotbars?

In fact he is. I assume you are implying that putting spells on your hotbar contributes to crashing. I'll try taking them off my hotbar and see if it reduces the ubercrashing I've been experiencing. Thanks.

The number of players online definately affects the crash rate, and so does the number of NPCs in an area. Some areas have quite a few, I've noticed. I play on another server as well where I hardly crash. Maybe every 50th-60th transition. The server is about as large as this one area-wise, I think, and it has a big playerbase as well, so I don't know why it's different here. The fact of the matter is, that I've never crashed as much as here and I have never experienced the game just locking up but it does that here as well. Now, this is not a rant, I'm just stating how things are - I rather like this server... despite the frequent crash rate Does anyone know, are the placeables set to "envorinmental" or "objects" in the toolset, and does the builder utilize the walkmesh cutter?
