A messenger is sent to the Duke and an expensive parchment sealed with wax is delivered. The script is formal and hints of elvish script.
Duke Eltan,
My thanks for your flowing words and the scrolls that you sent in honor of our Weave Sister Lana. She is a rising star amongst our fold and her reputation rises by the personal letter and attention you have given.
Now for the less joyous of news... As you most likely have heard, there is a great evil knocking upon the city's gates. I am certain that rumors and tales of a necromancer have reached your ears. My numerous sources have given me much information on the matter and I have witnessed a few myself. In fact, I personally have seen a portal opened in Lion's Way. Out of this portal marched out a contingent of heavily armored and armed bugbears. A human figure armored in black came forth as well and he wreaked of undeath. He then proceeded to enchant the small army prior to their march towards Baldur's Gate. I slowed them down as much as I could and sent my Lore Master Jhaelen to summon reinforcements. We ultimately clashed with the bugbears just south of Baldur's gate and defeated them but not without much effort.
The most disturbing thing however was the formation of a larger and even more powerful portal at the battle site. Thank the gods that it did not fully open but I am most certain that whoever tried will try again. I dread at the thought of what may have passed through it.
I send this long missive not to tell a tale but to inform you of the dangers Baldur's Gate faces. Since you are given the charge to defend the city, I offer this to you directly. Your soldiers will be of no match to this impending evil encroaching upon you. Adulteration of the Weave is strong with the dark architect of this evil. I will charge my guild to offer what assistance they can to your troops to fight this danger. Be it by enchantments or by assisting in the escort of your patrols, consider us an ally in the fight against this evil.
May the Weave protect you,
Nahum, Weave Master Exarch
