I was thinking along the lines of a Candlekeep quest (I think their was a quest for CK in the original Balders Gate). In order to have access to the library, a character would have to acquire a rare book from a musty old (undead and worse filled) crypt. If the PC successfully brings the book to the keep, they gain library access and either a token magic item (broach or signet ring), or perhaps gain access to a merchant that has some rare items on hand occasionally. This could also be a requirement for the Arcane Scholar Prestige Class.
Also, if you are eventually going to be bringing in Daggerford, maybe a weekly or bi-weekly caravan through the field of the dead would be a nice twist. With Daggerford serving as a supply hub to northern cities like Waterdeep, you could even have factions trying to ruin the other's caravan: Iron Throne vs The Merchant League and so on.

More bounties. The fist, or private contractors, need your help in reducing the population of some arbitary vermin infesting the country side, be it goblins, bandits, gnolls or ogres depending on what's bothering travelers most at the moment. So head out, bring back proof you reduced their population by a dozen or so, and get paid for the deed.
I would also like to combine the previous two suggestions, and make it possible to get hired as a caravan guard.

Well, if the DEVs pick one of these ideas, they can send me which one and I'll get an outline and attempt to write the dialogues for one of these. I think it'd be fun.

Alright, I'll post my 2 cents here, since I believe this will be one the most important threads on the forums. Having interesting quests on a PW may probably be one of the most important things to make the world feel alive, and engaging, not giving you that feeling that you are only killing monsters for no reason whatsoever (how many gnoll/lizard hunters can there be on the realms? ). In my opinion, it's really important that your character levels up AS HE ACCOMPLISHES SOMETHING SIGNIFICANT. There's nothing worse than that feeling that you are "just running around, killing things, with no objective". Although all the previous suggestions are valid, bringing some flavor the urban areas, and allowing the use of skills on dialogues, it is my opinion that we should have QUESTS THAT REALLY TAKE YOUR TIME, that take some considerable time to finish, and force you to group in a party. This could be done, for example, by making MASSIVE DUNGEON CRAWLS, that culminate on a certain objective. I can remember, for instance, when I completed the quest in BG 1 in the mines of Nashkel (where you found Xan in the end). That was really awesome, the dungeon was massive, there were lots of enemies, and you would get that feeling of tiredness on the middle of the dungeon, with all your characters injured, and only a few spells left. That was awesome . You felt like you were struggling to survive. Another similar dungeons were the Firewine Bridge Ruins, and the Icewind Dale dungeons (which where pretty much all huge). So, having said all that, I'll try to think of some cool ideas for quests.

Hah! You're describing a DM event. ;D I hope you have joined at least one by now. There is some sort of scripting problem with group quests, i dont know what it is, but they tend to bug now and then. Best to keep the quests single and when you feel like group, join an DM event. Its better xp, fun and rp. Since the NPCs are also being controled by a human. ;D But if the scripting can be done with no bugs im all for it.

Actually, I have joined one DM event, which was pretty cool (although we had some lag issues ). However, the whole point of the type os quests I mentioned was to make them "automated", i.e. without the need of human (DM) intervention to make it work. I realize it would take a lot of scripting and work to the DEVs, but in my opinion it would be worthwhile.

A couple of traditional, kill dragon loot treasure once a week per person would be interesting. Or, save the dragon quest from adventurors ooooo.

Gender Specific quests! NO harlots in the docks!? Not ONE!? Lots of rooms at the inn...and ALL are vacant...
Fishing for relaxation and selling to merchants (hunting wolves gets old)
Working on the farm for gold. Lots to do on a farm...
Maybe something that would create a prestige level with people and merchants, letting u see more wares...gain status with this guy and that guy over there loses status with you...
This may not be on topic, but I was just reading the nobility fourm and I had a ding moment. The DMs could the players LIMITED abilities to shape the game with role-play quests.
What I purpose is this...give the House HEADS access to customize RP specific quests (working in conjunction with DMs or something) and they could delegate the matters down to 'worthy' members. It may help encourage people to get-to-know the world in they are inside, and to shape it.
Questing could include things like buy all the weapons in one district to hurt trade costs of a faction that may 'own' the establishment. Kill said employee of said house. Or even worm your way into the 'eyes' and 'ears' of a certain guild. Could reward unique items (which may become targets for other mini-quests later) and even could effect the flow of trade in the city.
It could get out of hand, but I just think it would give the players more of a hand on how the world may socially expand.

Farm quest for Lore based characters:
A monk in Candlekeep asks you if you can find him some rare ancient books for the library. You can use the old mine-ruin near Beregost. It has a room with some book shelfs. So, you initiate a dialog with the shelf and using your lore skill you can identify an old tome. The higher the lore skill the more valuable the tome you can find. Then just bring it back and collect your coin. It can also be extended to Durlag's Tower and in the future, Ulcaster Ruins.
For Druids or Rangers:
An animal(Any animal you want) shows up to you hurt in the wilderness and tells you some hunters are around. You need to use your survival skill to track them. Maybe some specific location triggers and then make a survival check to know which direction they went. In the end, if your skill is good enough, you find a party or 3 hunters and you can talk to them to convince them to leave or kill them all, if you want or have to. Add some bluff, diplomacy, intimidate to the dialogs.
For bards:
Easy and simple. You can get a job singing at the Elfsong, Jovial Juggler or Burning Wizard. You get in position and initiate the dialog. Perform check and if successful you get the applause and coin-xp. You can do it 5 times, each time with a higher DC. And each time with more coin and more xp.

For the drinkers:
Forgunt, the dwarf challenges you for a drinking contest. Can be done in any tavern, but Beregost is better, specially in the Jovial Juggler. Make several types of ale available, each with a different DC and after each drink the bet gets higher. If you lose, you lose gold but get xp, but if you win you get xp and gold. If you feel like quit after a few drinks, you need intimidate, bluff or diplomacy to keep your gold.

For the Carnival in Beregost:
Himmos, the gambler, offers you to play some games and take some bets. You can chose from 4-5 games you want, and he will cheat in all of them. Intelligence check: Prevents him from cheating. Spot check: Catches him cheating if you fail the intelligence check. Sleight of Hand: Cheat yourself and win, if you can. Har!

A shady character inside the Jovial Juggler asks you to get him 5 vials with Vampire Blood. (Yeah, ok, make him tell you a story first) With a lore check you can identify him as a possible necromancer. You can aid him or go tell the Lathander Guards. In which case he wont speak with you again and he tells you he will deny everything. If you chose to help you can go to the Haunted Mannor and get him some Vampire Blood. If you bring him the blood he will reward you with xp and coin, and after a diplomacy/bluff check you can get a Potion of Lesser Vigor. And he startd to be available as a ''semi-merchant'', buying vampire blood, skeleton bones, and all sorts of necro stuff you want or can made available in drops. And even if you guys want, make him a full merchant, selling those things back(Possible stuff for crafting)

Easy one for Candlekeep:
We already have a ''hospital'' in Candlekeep. So, you could ''help'' the nurse there by healing some of the sick or injuried. Small xp and alignment shift.
