So here is your chance to show off your writing skills! One of the things we are going to work on next is quests for both the UD and the surface. If you have a good idea for one of these quests share it here and you might see it in game.

I love multiple step quests that force a player to enter each and every major zone, major NPC's and places of interest in game. The quest would get more difficult with each step, also giving out some xp and gold for each step.
The final leg should take a party of balanced maxxed players to complete and culminate in a DM awarded character specific reward.
The quest is non repeatable. I guess I can take a swag at it and flesh it out if ya want me to....dammit I really do not want to volunteer!

Quest idea:
Jobs. Like a job that gives you quests, basicly the same, with different rewards (Tips) and experience, using your skills to improve the outcome of the quest. Similar to Erulaan's idea.
Like this:
Aello is receiving new shipments of trinkets, cloth, books and other stuff. He needs a ''delivery boy/girl''. So he sends you to the docks to talk to NPC ''X''. There, the NPC gives you, lets say, a small painting, you need to deliver to a noble in the Palace District. There, you meet the noble, and talking to him, he tells you about how he collects paintings and lets you see one of them. By examining one of the paintings, you can use Lore to speak about the paintings, Appraise to speak about the value of the paintings, or even Bluff to speak like you know what you're talking about. If you succeed in any check you can get a tip and extra xp, if not, just the normal payment and xp. Then you go back to the dock NPC for your next delivery, and this can go on for as many deliveries you want. Each different than the other. Good quest for low lvls or PC that dont like combat. (Since most of the quests have combat)
Quest for the Elfsong:
A shy man needs you to get a barmaid to talk to him. Use your diplomacy/lore/bluff again to convince her that the shy dude is actually pretty cool. lol
Tip: We could also use the quests that the Original BG has. They are awesome. ;D

Ild like an NPC who talks for hours about FR Lore and how magic works then at the end you have to answer his questions and gain xp with correct answers.

Also, the idea of using some of the quests in the original Baldur's Gate sounds fun too =]

well obviously the UD needs some quests, any at all really, before the surface get even more.
I have sent some suggestions over in the past regarding UD quests, I am reposting below for your convenience. I think it's very important for new players to get an understanding of how the UD differs from the surface realm and so most of these quests focus on the differing deities that are prominent in Sshamath and through them introduce the players to the differences from a societal perspective.
1). An introduction to Ghaunadaurians. Ghaunadaur (the one who waits) is the most ancient of the drow pantheon (pre-dating Lolth) and represents those drow who worship slimes, oozes and jellies. His worshippers tend to be insane self-flagellating annihilists. Given the new UD area that is populated by slimes and such (there's even an island redoubt perfect for a ghaunadaurian stronghold) it would be a nice fit to have the PC setup to engage in a quest to thwart their evil plans. Perhaps the head of the school of divination has glimpsed something of their machinations and sets the PCs to recover a key holy item without which the Ghuanadaurians cannot complete their summoning of the "king of all oozes". This would be a more lengthy quest for higher level UD peeps that would teach them a little about the most vile of the entire drow pantheon along the way.
2). "Bring me Heads" Selvetarm (the spider who waits) is the consort to Lolth as well as her son. He is her protector and a demi-god of his own right. His followers tend towards berserkers and typically scream his name in battle. This could be a simple quest where the PC has heard that the local representative of the Church of Selvetarm is hiring all and sundry to reclaim the heads of the escaped gols/kobolds. This is a simple quest for lower levellers where they just have to recover x number of "heads" for the XP reward. You can only do it once however not like the insane mage in the gloura's wings who pays you for hundreds of beetle pincers ;-)
3). Lolth is missing a heretic. Much of Lolth's clergy time and energy is focussed on rooting out heretics (real and imagined) from their church. This would be a more subtle quest utilizing primarily interaction skills and involving some detective work across the city of Sshamath. Focusses on levels 5-10 it would be mostly about introducing the PC to Sshamath and it's many different areas.
4). The masked lord works in secret. This is an introduction to the other primary divine powerbase within Sshamath, the clergy of Vhaeraun. This would be a shorter quest for any level range and geared to instilling in the PC an understanding of the pervasiveness of double-dealing, double-crossing and general untrustworthiness you can expect from other UD denizens.
5). Kieransalee needs more bodies! Simple tomb-robbing/ grave-robbing for the benefit of the cult of kieransalee. Along the way the PCs get introduced to the only alien god in the drow pantheon and her never-ending quest to accrue more power.
Darkwoods area of Sshamath- a large cavern connected to southern sshamath that has a multi-racial ghetto ruled by the various inhabitants where anything goes (the area is not policed like the rest of Sshamath). Locations within the Darkwoods: 1). The temple to Vhaeraun is located here as well (see the "welcome to sshamath thread"). If you have "Vhaeraun" as your deity you can get a widget from an NPC at the entrance that affords you access to the private areas of the temple/church. 2). A pit-fighting ring/ tavern where players can go to challenge one another or a spawned monster and bet on the outcome. 3). A shrine to the Svirf god. 4). A shrine to the Duergar god.
Build out more interiors of schools of magic in Sshamath- Put in buildings w/ interiors for the various wizards schools of magic. Players focussed in the requisite school of magic can join these schools by talking to an NPC. Once they have joined they get a widget that affords them entry into the "members only" area of the school. Once they achieve a high enough level (for example lvl 10 caster) they get an enhanced widget that allows them to teleport back to their school of magic once per day (or rest period or whatever).
Build out interiors of quellars in Sshamath- Allocate quellars to the player-run ones that are being developed (I think there are three now) and give "keys" to the members so that only they can get into their house. These interiors could be developed by the individual house members for inclusion by the devs to take some of the workload off of them.
Build out the morgue in Sshamath- This could be a great place for necromancers and worshippers of Kieransalee.
That's all for now, most of my concepts focus on enhancing areas that reinforce the lore and hence RP of the city and provide opportunities for scripted NPC adventures and player-based guilds as opposed to endless grinding tunnels.

;D thx Another one then: For Thieves: NPC near the shrine of Mask, by talking to you, asks you to steal some things from Maltz. You can either report him to the Fist, and he runs away/goes hostile or you can go and PP Maltz. Gaining gold, xp and a shift in your alignment, depending on your choice. Diplomacy to get more gold and bluff to get more gold by threatening to report him. For Clerics: The Temple of Mystra needs someone to get in contact with a mage in the Helm and the Cloak, who was selling powerful scrolls and magical items to the Temple, but stopped for no reason and dont want to talk to any one from the Temple. You find the dude, and using your lore you can identify him and make some compliments to get ''reputation with him'', bluff to say explain how much profit he can make now that the Temple is desperate, Intimidation, dont need to explain, or you can simply find out why he stopped selling. If you chose to do so, you will find out that the Temple want to ''call dibs'' on all his items, and he cant sell to anyone else. He then asks you to talk to the Priestess about allowing him to sell to other Temples/Stablishments, and you can either chose to help him or go with the skill usage. If you chose to help him, then you need to go back to the priestess and use the skills on her, to convince her about his side. More to come.

For Bards:
The local minstrel at the Burning Wizard came down sick on the night of his big performance and the innkeeper is desperately looking for someone to fill his place for the night.
Of course, it would have to be fleshed out and have more to it then a simple perform check, but that could be done.

An introduction to Laduguer the god of the duergar.
This quest would only be available to Duergar of any level.
In the Darkspires live the Duergar of Sshamath, toiling away night and day to craft the magical items the Conclave craves so desperately.
One particular Duergar craftsmen holds himself and his work in higher estimation than those around him, if he could just get them to appreciate the quality of his work he could bring in much higher profits. As every Duergar knows accumulating wealth is the main component of successfully being accepted into the realm of Laduguer in the afterlife. The Duergar PC is tasked with handicapping his competitors through any of a variety of means: intimidation, robbery of precious crafting materials, sowing discord between vendors and their patrons etc etc everything just short of outright violence.

fodder for the pit
the pit-fighting tavern in the Darkwoods is in constant need of new and challenging creatures to pit against all comers. The PC (any race, any level) agrees to become an agent for the tavern and is given a special restraint collar (or other item). He can use this collar on any unwitting foe (PC or monster) by sneaking up on them and using the widget. If successful the monster/ PC is teleported to the slave pens beneath the tavern ready for the next fight, the PC who initiated it lose the collar and gains some XP and gold.

cut your losses
the intent here is to introduce drow PCs to the nature of their race.
The PC is hired by a member of the conclave to retrieve some kind of magical item. They are accompanied by an NPC who is along to help the PC identify the right item. During the process of recovering the item the PC is presented with a choice, recover the item or save the NPC. If the PC choses to save the NPC the conclave will not be happy and negative results will be incurred. If the PC choses to "cut his losses" and recover the item but the NPC dies the conclave will be very happy; the item was more valuable than the NPC.

An Inconvenient Rock-Hobbit
Contrary to every other Drow settlement Sshamath tolerates the presence of Svirfnbelin, even going so far as to allow them to work and live in the city as free residents (if not citizens). Most have settled in the Darkwoods multi-racial ghetto and this entails some "flexibility" in their demeanor in order to get along. Recently a particular svirf has been causing trouble for his clansmen, openly insulting drow and picking fights with any that he comes across in the tunnels outside Sshamath. This has attracted the attention of the Conclave and to forestall any action on their part the svirfneblin's clansmen have determined to capture him and ship him off to his distant relatives in Blingdenstone. To this end they have contracted with the PC to find and bring him back (alive!) to the clan for transhipment.
This mini-quest will introduce the PC to the darkwoods and it's environs as well as svirfneblin society.

i could go on and on, there are so many ways to come up with little mini-quests.
the key is to provide the players with something more than just "fedex this" and that little something is relevance to the game world by introducing them to the lore and environment in which they are RPing.
if you want more ideas you know where to find me ;-)

Escort Quests!
A Noble NPC joins your party on his way to Beregost and he has ridiculously low HP, and he can only walk.
You'll have to get him from the BG Nobles district to his/her spouse in Beregost.
(Like radger except spanning a few areas and harder)
Orc Prisoners!
In the many unused Prison Cells in the Orc cave put near death/badly wounded prisoners that you have to escort to an NPC outside the Flaming Fist compound to tell their story!
So on so on.
