Is there a monastery attached to the shrine in Baldur's Gate? If there is, my monk, Caern, would be interested in assisting/guarding the shrine.

There is a temple of Illmater in Baldur's Gate. We can look into aiding you in joining the order. -Ice

Caern has been inducted into the Temple of Illmater as an initiate. He stands guard over the temple awaiting further orders. -Ice

It seems like an eternity but moments go fleeting by as Valturen stand in fron to the book and chants for guidance. Almost every day he steps into the house of Ilmater and speaks his fathers name
Most of the time he feels like he is alone in front of the dais, but he knows his father is watching him

The newly initiated monk enters the church he breathes in deep the smell of burned incent. Slowly he walks past the statue in the middle of the room making his way to the altar. He takes his place like every morning since his arrival here in Baldur's Gate. Minutes pass as he kneels and prays to his lord for forgiveness and strength for his daily duties. After hours it seems, he slowly gets up nods to the altar and takes his leave. The people on the streets see a strong glimmer in his eyes they have gotten to know him as the helper of the hurt and protector of travellers the good Brother Bron. As every day he runs his way out of town.

The Reverend Brother of Ilmater, Balram Stonehand, finishes next day´s homily with the following words:
"We shall not forget to feel for the people who experience pain and suffering not far away from us, on the dangerous roads by the hand of vagabond bandits and by the bared teeth of dangerous monsters. Many priests of the Crying God have left the temple and began to devote their lives to healing and advising help-seeking travelers, for they have realized that weeping for the suffering alone will not be sufficient in these times. Our new Brother Bron Asen, who has come to us from his home far south in Cormyr, has also answered this call, and shall any of you encounter him during your travels, know that he is a fellow Brother of Ilmater who will not reject anyone in need...."
