Woo hoo guys I started on the Cloud Peak Mountain Top Pass area yesterday. Its going to be a lot of fun. It has a Frost Giant castle built into one of the mountains and will be a cold and terrible place.
Speaking of cold, I have an idea for the area. I would like to see some sort of cold damage when you travel there applied to the PCs. Maybe some of you would think this to extreme but I think it would be a nice twist if not overdone. Something to where it builds over time so you can't stay there for over long periods of time without having to come out and warm up. It would be even cooler if you had build a campfire there ever so often to get your temp back (ie. make the cold effects wear off. Maybe this is a fools dream though. Driller what are your thoughts?

I saw similar done on another module, save that you took heat damage from being in the desert, and it only went away if you were properly protected from the heat (protection from elements, innate fire resistance, etc). I believe you took more or less damage depending on the type of armor you wore, and you took none when you were near/in the oasis. So it definitely seems possible, and if it works for the area you have in mind, I would say go for it.

Its possible and servers have done this on both ends...
SoH- Fire damage in the Deep maze as it was filled with Lava Sundren- Cold damage in their mountain pass
Both places allowed you to bypass this with resistances or spells, and it only damaged you 1 point per 2 or 3 seconds. -Ice

That would be a great idea, but we get no cold resistance gear lol. Perhaps if you are near a firepit the cold would go away? I think if you try to rest and take any type of damage, you automatically quit the rest, but I don't know. And I hope these frost giants have a CR that scales to their combat stats... I don't want any more hill giants that are the strongest creatures in the PW damage, AB, and HP wise but have like 5 less CR than the abandoned estate skeletons, which can be quite safe after some buffing.

The Frost giants will be harder than the Hill Giants if anything. Maybe the hill giants will get toned down but I doubt it. I have seen groups of 3 kill them. Here is a new pic from the mountain top pass. Its an early pic but gives you an idea of what your up against.

some bulky cloaks and other clothes would help a lot in areas like the icy mountains.
The clothes could be given a +2 bonus to the con (survival?) save to resist the effects of weather (if, in fact, a save is used for that).

For cold effects it would be cheaper and level requirement cheap to do it as a Cold Resist 5/- so you negate the cold on an auto fire script for damage. Just my own experience though as I did this for Sundren. -Ice
